Open Loot (OL) has announced a major change in direction that will see several partner games leave the platform. The update, posted on September 25, lays out a new strategy that moves the web3 gaming platform toward more focused partnerships and internal game development. Four games (Boss Fighters, Shatterpoint, The Desolation, and Kokodi) will no longer be part of the OL ecosystem. While players can still withdraw their assets, each studio will handle the migration separately.

Strategic Refocus and Internal Game Development

Since its launch in 2020, Open Loot has aimed to lead in web3 gaming by merging digital ownership with enjoyable gameplay. The platform's most successful title, Big Time, has rewarded players with over $467 million, logged 4.3 million gameplay hours in the past year, and seen the creation of more than 7.8 million items.

But not all partner projects have performed as expected. Open Loot did not name any game directly, but the post acknowledged that some failed to launch or maintain player interest. Citing the low success rate in the web3 space, the team has now decided to focus on fewer games with stronger backing.

As part of this new plan, Open Loot's internal teams are already working on new titles. These include a mobile pet-collecting game tied to the Big Time universe and a competitive strategy game for mobile and browser. No release dates or gameplay details have been shared yet.

Credit Program for Players

To reward users who supported other games on the platform, Open Loot is introducing a discount credit program. Players who made purchases between August 24, 2023, and September 22, 2025, in titles outside of Big Time, will receive $2.9 million worth of credits in total. These credits can cover up to 25% of any primary purchase in Big Time when paid with the $OL token.

For example, if someone spent $10,000 on WorldShards, they would receive $2,500 in credit. A future $100 item could then be bought for $75 using those credits, reducing the credit balance by $25. The credit program is set to extend to future Open Loot titles as well. A start date for this system will be announced soon.

NFT Utility to Continue in Future Titles

All upcoming Open Loot games will offer utility for Big Time NFTs, ensuring ongoing value for those who supported the platform early on. This move is meant to reward long-term players while keeping their in-game items relevant across future games.

Four Partner Games Leaving Open Loot

With the shift in strategy, 4 titles are officially departing from the Open Loot platform. These include:

Boss Fighters

Boss Fighters
This action-based 1v4 multiplayer game has already begun the migration process. Players will no longer be able to access the game through Open Loot after October 4, 2025. Instead, they can play via Steam or Meta Quest.

Open Loot balances in the game will show zero since inventories won't sync, but actual balances will remain on the platform during the transition window, which runs from October 4 to November 4. A final snapshot will be taken on November 4, after which the studio will begin reissuing NFTs and game tokens based on that snapshot.

All NFT listings on Open Loot have been canceled, although current rentals will remain active until they expire. Players are encouraged to link their Metamask wallets to their Boss Fighters accounts to ensure their assets transfer correctly. A detailed claim guide will be shared by the end of next week.

Shatterpoint

Shatterpoint
The fast-paced mobile MOBA will also exit Open Loot and migrate to a new blockchain ecosystem. The developers stated that this move offers a chance to grow the game's onchain experience.

As part of the transition, Season 2 will be delayed, possibly by 2 months. A snapshot of player assets will be taken once Season 1 ends, and trading will stop on Open Loot to prepare for asset migration. While no specific date has been given yet, the team confirmed that the roadmap will be updated soon. It includes new partners, a full development timeline, and an upgraded Season 3.

The Desolation

The Desolation
This co-op looter shooter was not informed ahead of time about Open Loot's decision, according to the game's Discord announcement. The studio said the termination came without any warning and has delayed their planned proxy token launch.

Because of the short notice, the team hasn't yet secured a new partner or platform. Players are urged to move their NFTs to personal wallets for safety. The studio is now exploring technical solutions and will share an updated roadmap in October. The team is still aiming to launch the game globally on iOS and Android.

Kokodi Games

Kokodi
At this time, the developers behind this 3rd person extraction shooter have not shared any public plan or statement about their next steps following the departure from Open Loot.

What Is Open Loot?

Open Loot is an onchain gaming platform built by Big Time Studios. It provides tools for builders to create games with player-owned economies using NFTs and other web3 elements. The platform offers wallet options, marketplace tools, NFT rental systems, and fiat/crypto payments.

A key feature of Open Loot is its patented Vault technology, which allows players to manage digital assets without gas fees. The $OL token is the ecosystem's native currency, used for discounts, purchases, and game rewards.

While it was first created to support Big Time, Open Loot expanded its services to include titles like WorldShards, Boss Fighters, and Shatterpoint. Now, with the new direction, it is scaling back to focus on a tighter group of games and improve support.

Next Steps and Ongoing Changes

Open Loot will share more details about its internal games in the near future. At the same time, players of the departing titles should follow updates from each individual studio. Migration instructions and wallet connection steps will be shared soon by Boss Fighters and Shatterpoint, while The Desolation is set to give an update next month.

No specific date has been given for when Kokodi will share its transition plan. Players are advised to secure their digital items and wait for direct instructions from the developers.
