Onchain Summer, hosted by Coinbase and Base, returns for its second year, celebrating the onchain economy. This multi-month event features on-chain music, art, gaming, and more, inviting everyone to join and create. Running through August, the event offers daily activities, showcasing the community's creative potential.
Participants can start by minting the Onchain Summer NFT, which allows them to remix the brand for their own projects. Proceeds from the NFT sales go to the original creators, Clément Cases and Bendito Mockup. The event seeks to connect with a global audience, making it easy for anyone to get involved.
Events include a buildathon hosted by Base and its partners, including Optimism, with over $2 million in prizes, grants, and gas credits. The event also includes an on-chain merch store where the community can sell or design new merchandise. Coinbase's smart wallets offer a fast way to create on-chain accounts with sponsored transactions. All Onchain Summer merch and experiences can be paid with stablecoins in USDC.
Coinbase One members get extra benefits, such as zero trading fees and boosted staking rewards. They can also verify their status on-chain for exclusive perks during the event. Participants can take part in daily activities, such as minting, gaming, and merch creation, until August 30th. Updates and weekly recaps will be available through Coinbase Wallet and social media channels.
Base, developed by Coinbase, is a Layer-2 blockchain network built using the OP Stack from Optimism. Launched in August 2023, Base offers near-zero gas fees, fast transactions, and robust security backed by Ethereum. By building on the OP Stack, it allows for seamless asset transfers between different chains.
