Onchain Heroes, an Ethereum-based idle role-playing game (RPG) launching later this month, has unveiled comprehensive details about its in-game cryptocurrency, $HERO, and the phased rollout of its Genesis Heroes NFT collection.

The game, built on Abstract Chain (an Ethereum Layer-2 network), will require players to own one of 10,000 limited-edition NFTs to participate, with $HERO serving as the backbone of its in-game economy.

The $HERO Token: Utility, Supply, and Distribution

$HERO is an ERC-20 utility token deployed on the Abstract Chain, designed exclusively for use within the Onchain Heroes ecosystem. Players can earn the token by completing missions, daily challenges, and in-game achievements. It functions as the primary currency for character upgrades, cosmetic purchases, and unlocking special features.

Token Supply and Allocation

The token will launch with a fixed supply of 1 billion (1,000,000,000) $HERO. Developers note that deflationary mechanics will gradually reduce circulation over time. The initial allocation breakdown is as follows:

  • 73.1% (731,000,000 $HERO): Reserved for the game protocol, distributed as rewards to players.
  • 15% (150,000,000 $HERO): Allocated to the team and early investors, subject to a 2-year vesting period with a 6-month cliff (no tokens accessible before the cliff expires).
  • 6.9% (69,000,000 $HERO): Distributed to holders of Genesis Rings over multiple gameplay seasons.
  • 5% (50,000,000 $HERO): Dedicated to business development, including marketing and liquidity pools.

Availability and Risks

The $HERO token will not be available until the game’s official launch on February 19, 2025. Developers have repeatedly warned about third-party scams, emphasizing that $HERO is not an investment product and holds no value outside the game.

“Players should only engage with $HERO through verified in-game actions,” said project lead Alex Carter in a press statement. “We’ve structured this as a utility-first token to avoid speculation.”

A document called the Heropaper, set to be released on February 10, will provide detailed insights into $HERO’s deflationary mechanics, earning strategies, and long-term sustainability.

Genesis Heroes NFT Mint: Access, Pricing, and Phases

The Genesis Heroes NFT collection consists of 10,000 unique digital characters minted on the Abstract Chain. Owning one is mandatory to access Onchain Heroes, making it a key entry requirement. Each NFT doubles as a playable character with distinct traits, though developers have not yet disclosed how these traits will impact gameplay.

Mint Schedule and Pricing

The NFTs will be sold in four phases, starting February 19, priced at 0.069 ETH (~$250 at current market rates):

Phase 1: Ringbearer Phase One (February 19, 10:00 AM ET)

  • Exclusive to "Ringbearers" (a group of early supporters).
  • 24-hour window to claim 1 free NFT and purchase up to 2 additional NFTs.

Phase 2: Herolist Phase (February 20, 10:00 AM ET)

  • 2-hour window for pre-approved participants to mint 1 NFT.

Phase 3: Ringbearer Phase Two (February 20, 12:00 PM ET)

  • 1-hour first-come, first-served (FCFS) sale for Ringbearers to mint 2 additional NFTs.

Phase 4: Public Phase (February 20, 1:00 PM ET)

  • Open to all Ethereum wallets, with a cap of 10 NFTs per wallet.

Immediate Gameplay Access

Unlike many blockchain games that delay their launches post-mint, Onchain Heroes will allow players to start gameplay immediately after acquiring a Genesis Hero NFT.

This instant accessibility eliminates waiting times and allows new NFT holders to dive into the game from day one.
