Onchain Heroes has launched MoG 2.0, a full rebuild of its extraction roguelike Maze of Gains, and opened the new version with an event called Dragma Unleashed that runs through September 3, 2026. The studio described the update as a rebuild from the ground up, pairing a new maze with familiar enemies from the wider Onchain Heroes universe.

Dragma Unleashed serves as the opening season for the rebuilt title. Players who enter early get the longest window to work through the maze before the event closes in early September, which matters in a game where progression compounds across runs rather than resetting after every death.

What Changed in the Rebuild

The original Maze of Gains asked players to descend through procedurally arranged floors, fight enemies, collect upgrades, and decide when to walk away with their loot. That core extraction loop survives. Almost everything around it was reworked.

The biggest structural change is persistent upgrades. Improvements now carry across runs instead of vanishing when a hero falls, which shifts the game from pure run to run gambling toward longer term character building. The combat system was redesigned to reward pattern recognition, asking players to learn how each enemy telegraphs its attacks rather than relying on favorable rolls. The studio framed this as adding a layer of skill and strategy to encounters that previously leaned on luck.

New biomes expand the maze beyond its original environments, and unique single use rooms were added to raise the tension of a descent. Once a player triggers one of these rooms, it is spent, which forces a choice about when to burn it. A new item system layers on top of the existing mechanics without replacing them, giving players more tools to shape a run.

The leveling system still produces a snowball effect where strong early decisions compound as a run goes deeper. That design remains intact in MoG 2.0, but the persistent upgrade layer means a failed run now feeds the next attempt instead of costing everything.

Two Playtests Set Up the Launch

The rebuild went through public testing before this launch. The first Maze of Gains 2.0 playtest opened on July 1, 2026 with a reward pool of 250 Arcade Keys. Entry was gated behind either a Ringbearer NFT or an Expedition Pass, keeping the initial round inside the existing holder base while the studio collected data on the reworked systems.

The second round lifted that gate entirely. Onchain Heroes removed the NFT requirement and let anyone join, distributing keys based on participation and feedback submissions rather than asset ownership. Playtest keys were unlimited during testing, which let players run the maze repeatedly and report back on balance issues without worrying about entry costs.

That two step approach gave the team a closed sample first and a broad one second, and the resulting feedback fed directly into the version now live as MoG 2.0.

Dragma Is a Returning Threat

Dragma is not a new invention for this event. The entity was introduced as the antagonist of Onchain Heroes Season 2, which launched on November 30, 2025, and was described in the game's own materials as a powerful new enemy born from broken timelines that spreads destruction across worlds and feeds on HERO tokens.

Season 2 split the fight into two phases. Phase 1 had players stake a hero and a weapon for a minimum of six hours to grind against Dragma's Underlings, with earnings tied to total damage dealt. Damage calculations pulled from hero level, weapon Sharpness, and Durability, and a Level 10 hero with adequate equipment generated roughly 2,520 HERO per day. Phase 2 arrived 3 to 4 weeks into the season and put players directly against Dragma with no level cap, rare loot drops, new crafting materials, and the risk of permanently losing a hero in combat.

Season 2 also reset all Genesis Heroes to Level 1 at the start, flattening the field for new arrivals. Leaderboard Points rewarded active play through leveling, weapon repair, sharpening, item minting, and higher risk activities such as Unknown Leveling and gear remixing, with top performers earning Genesis Rings, HERO bonuses, and exclusive items.

Bringing Dragma into the rebuilt maze as the launch event connects the roguelike back to that storyline rather than starting a fresh one.

Inside Onchain Heroes

Onchain Heroes is an adventure, idle, and RPG hybrid built fully onchain on Abstract, the Ethereum Layer 2 developed by Igloo Inc. The game is browser based and runs on both desktop and mobile, with game state and logic handled onchain rather than on centralized servers. It was created by Skarly, previously a lead developer at Wolf Game.

The main loop is built for short sessions. Players send heroes on adventures, earn HERO, craft gear, and climb the leaderboard, with the studio pitching a daily time commitment of 10 to 15 minutes. A Risk Protocol lets players pick how aggressive they want to be, from safe incremental progression to high risk approaches that can wipe a hero but pay considerably more. Access runs through Genesis Hero and Genesis Ringbearer NFTs, which unlock special events, and through keys that grant entry to specific dungeons and tournaments.

The economy has been restructured over 2026. VALOR, a stablecoin pegged to the US dollar and purchasable with USDC on Abstract Mainnet, was introduced to replace volatile in game currencies, operating off chain for instant fee free transactions while settling through audited contracts. HERO was not retired but moved to premium currency status, reserved for exclusive features including Weapon Remixing. A custom player marketplace launched ahead of the release of OCH World, letting players trade items such as Eve Keys. Genesis Ring holders receive weekly caches containing Energy, cosmetics, and additional resources.

Energy itself is soulbound and cannot move between wallets. Players earn it in the World's Eve dungeon and spend it to rejuvenate heroes in OCH World, tying the two titles together through gameplay rather than a shared token balance. Skins earned in one title carry into OCH World, which the studio positions as an economic hub for resource production and battles.

The ecosystem has also pushed into Asia. A partnership with Abstract Asia announced in March 2026 distributes 300 keys every month to players in Korea, China, and Thailand, letting participants skip the Genesis Hero requirement and join weekly tournaments and community events. The region accounts for 40 percent of the world's web3 game developers.

Onchain Heroes currently holds a PlayToEarn Score of 679 and sits at rank number 68 on the platform.
