The team behind Onchain Heroes has unveiled a new direction as they gear up for the launch of OCH World, their most ambitious project yet. In a new devlog on X, the team confirmed that they're moving away from fully onchain development, a decision shaped by lessons learned over the past year. The update also confirms that OCH World will now arrive in early Q1 2026, slightly later than the original Q4 2025 schedule.

What is OCH World?

OCH World is a high-risk idle RPG with deeper loops, new mechanics, and evergreen systems designed for long-term play. Compared to Seasons 1 and 2, the upcoming release aims to shift the game from short, timed content to something ongoing and expandable.

Players can expect a proper questing system, skill-based professions like forging and cooking, and progression paths that go beyond short-term goals. The new structure is built to support new zones, characters, and content updates over time. The team says OCH World won't just add more to the game; it changes how everything works at the core level.

Leaving Fully Onchain Behind

Since launch, Onchain Heroes has leaned heavily into fully onchain game development. Every fight, item, and action was logged directly on the Abstract chain. But the team now says that model has become too slow and too expensive to sustain.

Development costs have piled up, with over $50,000 spent just on smart contract audits across more than 20 contracts. On top of that, the pace of iteration was too limited, especially when compared to traditional games.

So, the team made a big call. Instead of chasing fully onchain design, they're now building with a hybrid on/offchain architecture. The new setup allows for faster updates, smoother gameplay, and a more flexible foundation for future content.

According to the team, players care far more about fun, mechanics, and fresh content than they do about whether the game is "fully onchain." The switch should make it easier to add new features without going through slow contract deployments.

In-Game Marketplace Overhaul

As part of this new move, Onchain Heroes also revealed a revamped in-game marketplace. Built with a custom orderbook, the new system uses onchain payments but settles items offchain. This lets players buy and sell items directly inside the game without jumping between websites.

Faster Indexing, Scalable Servers

While less flashy, the backend improvements are just as important. The team says they've cut indexing times from 4 hours down to just 20 minutes. This is thanks to a rewrite of their indexing system, which also improves developer speed and general reliability.

The entire lobby and server system has also been rewritten to support larger game areas and more flexible content updates. This should make it easier to add new zones without reworking major parts of the game.

Along with this, all existing art assets: Heroes, Ringbearers, NPCs, and zones, have been updated.

A New Economy for a New World

OCH World will also bring in a new game economy, about 10 times larger than anything from the earlier seasons. Unlike Season 1 and 2, which were limited by their timed structures, OCH World is designed to support long-term balance.

There will be more ways to play, earn, and trade, with Genesis assets and the $HERO token sitting at the center of this new system. The team notes that Season 2 was the last time $HERO was easy to earn.

Future updates will reveal more about how Genesis Heroes, Items, and Ringbearers fit into this expanding world.

Recapping the Journey So Far

Onchain Heroes began in early this year as a fully onchain idle RPG built on Abstract Chain, a Layer 2 network on Ethereum. Only Genesis Hero holders could play.

Season 1 kicked off in February, introducing players to a leveling loop and the Endgame Dungeon. The dungeon brought high-stakes battles with permadeath mechanics and heavy $HERO token use. Over the course of the season, players minted thousands of weapons and fought dungeon bosses for leaderboard spots and Gacha Tokens.

Season 2 launched in late May with even higher risk. This time, players faced Dragma, a world boss that evolved as the game progressed. Phase 1 focused on token farming and strategy, while Phase 2 pushed players into a final fight with no level caps and deadly outcomes. Season 2 added new crafting, gear remixing, and weapon upgrades, pushing the game deeper than ever before.

Introducing Primora: The First World

The first playable zone in OCH World is called Primora, a harsh and unstable frontier packed with resources, enemies, and new skills to master. From the start, players will get to mine, forge, and cook, laying the groundwork for a skill-based economy.

Primora is the first of many planned expansions. Future updates will open new portals, each bringing fresh challenges and regions into play. Every area will support the broader goal of a living, risk-filled game world where player choices carry real weight.

Delayed Launch to Early Q1 2026

First planned for Q4 2025, the public release of OCH World has now been delayed to early Q1 2026. A closed test for holders was also expected this quarter but has likely shifted along with the main launch.

The team says game launches aren't like software launches; they can't just "ship and fix later." The delay will give them time to polish systems and finalize critical pieces. It will also help sync the release with upcoming campaigns alongside Abstract and other game partners.

Team Expansion and Growth Focus

To support this bigger vision, the Onchain Heroes team has expanded. @pxpaws, a former marketing vendor for Animoca Brands, has joined as growth lead. They'll focus on player acquisition, partnerships, and social media.

Another new hire, @vibedeploy, has joined as a game developer. They'll be working on content systems to speed up feature creation.

The full team now includes the original founder, 4 engineers, 2 artists, and 1 growth lead.

Looking Ahead: More Devlogs and $HERO Utility

Over the next few weeks, the team will focus on adding more content, improving onboarding, and launching a creator program to support streamers and content creators.

They've also committed to releasing updates every 2 weeks so players can stay in the loop.

The $HERO token will also expand in use. Beyond OCH World, it will support staking mechanics and utility in future games tied to the Onchain Heroes universe.

The team says more details on the future of $HERO will come soon.
