Off The Grid has switched on a weekend XP boost. The cyberpunk extraction royale is running plus 50 percent Account and Battle Pass XP, letting players bank extra progress from every match they play. The event covers account levels along with the Redemption and Wrath progression tracks, and it ends Sunday at 4 PM CET.

The message from the studio is to grind now. Every match this weekend banks more, and the boost applies to matches, extractions, and kills alike. Players are being nudged to clear the ranks they have been sitting on before the buff disappears.

How the boost works

The bonus is straightforward. For the duration of the event, all Account and Battle Pass XP earned is increased by 50 percent. That covers three things at once: account levels, the Redemption track, and the Wrath track. Redemption and Wrath are the game's current Battle Pass progression lines, so the boost speeds up unlocks across both.

Every source of XP counts. According to the in-game promotion, each match, every extraction, and every kill banks 50 percent more Account and Battle Pass XP. The framing is simple math for players. Ranks that would normally take a full grind can be closed out faster during the window, which is why the studio is pushing players to drop in and rank up before it ends. Time-limited boosts like this one reward players who log the most matches across the weekend.

Inside Off The Grid

Off The Grid, often shortened to OTG, is a free-to-play cyberpunk extraction royale developed by Gunzilla Games. It launched in early access in October 2024 and quickly topped the Epic Games Store's free-to-play charts while drawing large crowds on Twitch. The title won Game of the Year at the 2024 GAM3 Awards. It is available on PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, Mac, and GeForce Now.

The game is built in Unreal Engine 5 and set on Teardrop Island, a tropical map scarred by years of corporate warfare between three MegaCorporations. Its world was shaped under the creative guidance of filmmaker Neill Blomkamp, known for District 9, Chappie, and Elysium, with sci-fi author Richard K. Morgan among the writers. That cinematic pedigree gives the shooter a strong narrative layer, with story missions woven into the battle royale format rather than bolted on.

The gameplay blends battle royale and extraction shooter mechanics. Players drop into matches, loot gear, and either survive to the end or extract valuable loot boxes at set points on the map before rivals take them out. A signature twist lets players shoot off an opponent's cybernetic limbs and grab them for their own use, feeding a deep gun and character customization system. Both PvP and PvE elements collide across a vertical map with gliding and traversal mechanics, giving OTG a distinct feel among free-to-play shooters. A new proximity chat feature has also been teased, including a mechanic that opens direct voice chat between a player and an enemy they have just knocked down.

The GUNZ blockchain and GUN token

OTG is also a web3 game, though its blockchain features are optional. It runs on GUNZ, an EVM-compatible Layer 1 blockchain built on an Avalanche subnet and designed specifically for AAA web3 gaming. The GUNZ mainnet launched on March 31, 2025, alongside the native GUN token, which serves as the gas token and primary currency across the ecosystem. Traditional players can enjoy the full game without ever touching crypto, while those who opt in can trade earned items as NFTs.

The economy is deliberately player-driven. Gunzilla has pledged not to sell NFTs directly to players, keeping the marketplace in the community's hands. Any item earned in the game, from weapons to cosmetics, can be minted into an NFT and traded for GUN on the marketplace, with plans to extend trading to OpenSea. Players also pay Hex decoding fees in GUN as part of the loot loop. Under the token's design, 30 percent of Off The Grid's gross revenues are earmarked to repurchase GUN tokens for distribution to players based on their in-game performance, tying real revenue back to the people playing.

The token launched with a total supply of 10 billion GUN, debuting tradable on Binance with a seed tag. Its price peaked near 0.115 USD on launch day before pulling back sharply, trading around 0.027 USD as of early 2026 amid a broader downturn in crypto gaming funding. The game's most active onchain day so far came on March 30, 2025, when it drew 280,505 users engaging with its blockchain mechanics, a scale that has kept OTG among the most-played web3 titles.

The road to full release

The XP boost lands as Gunzilla builds toward a bigger milestone. After roughly six years of development, the studio has confirmed that Off The Grid's full release is planned for October 2026, moving the game out of its early access phase with a slate of planned features. Recent updates have focused on performance, including an FPS uplift aimed at running Teardrop better on older hardware, plus new content swings for the map.

Weekend events like the current 50 percent boost are part of how the studio keeps its player base active during that run-up. With account levels and both the Redemption and Wrath Battle Pass tracks all earning extra XP through Sunday at 4 PM CET, the studio is giving players a clear reason to jump back into Teardrop Island before the full launch later this year.
