Off The Grid (OTG), the cyberpunk-themed battle royale from District 9 director Neill Blomkamp, is officially coming to Steam via Early Access in June 2025. Already live on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and the Epic Games Store since October 2024, this new release will also include full crossplay support across all platforms.
Gunzilla Games co-founder and CEO Vlad Korolov shared the significance of this new platform launch:
"Bringing Off The Grid to Steam is a major milestone for us, not just because of the platform's reach, but because it allows us to welcome an entirely new wave of players into a game that's been built hand-in-hand with the community," said Korolov in a press statement. "This launch is a celebration of that collaboration, and it’s only the beginning."
Alongside the Steam debut, players can expect refined balancing, improved performance, new weapons, cybernetic limbs, and game modes. While the Steam version is not expected to include crypto features, it marks a huge leap for the title's visibility. Interested users can wishlist Off The Grid on Steam here.
This month, Off The Grid received a major update ahead of its Steam debut:
The update also saw a new Battle Pass, bringing two cosmetic themes — CleanUp Crew and Hopper Pilot — plus an OTG Pro Pack featuring the Crash Test Ted skin.
But the latest move comes during a period of growing uncertainty in web3 gaming, as several titles have announced shutdowns within just a few days. This has also triggered new FUD around OTG's financial status.
On May 18, Twitch streamer inhuman posted on X, stating:
"Off the Grid is currently lying about their player growth and hiding comments from their remaining loyal playerbase calling them out. This game has not had full NA lobbies since December last year."
Inhuman also claimed that the game owes $441,000 in unpaid prize pool rewards and that "no one has been paid in 5 months."
But a few days later, several players posted confirmations of recent payments. ShazzV shared:
"I got paid for all my winnings in Clash for Cash S1 in @playoffthegrid — $24,000 total… Gunzilla Games offered to either get a bank wire or get paid in $GUN tokens — I took GUN!"
Similarly, 1vs3_Joker said:
"Just got paid $39,000 for my winnings… and it only took 1 day to process!"
Both players posted wallet screenshots as proof of receipt of GUN tokens. As of writing, Gunzilla has not made a formal statement regarding the discrepancy.
Off The Grid is a free to play, third-person cyberpunk shooter set on the dystopian Teardrop Island. Designed by Gunzilla Games and helmed creatively by Neill Blomkamp, the game combines 150-player PvP battle royale combat with a 60-hour narrative campaign.
Some key gameplay features include:
OTG also integrates blockchain tech through its native GUNZ token and NFT-based items. Players can mint in-game items as NFTs and trade them via the Gunzilla Marketplace. But the Steam version is expected to be non-crypto due to the platform's restrictions.
Off The Grid's upcoming Steam launch marks a key inflection point for the game. With cross-platform support, gameplay tuning, and fresh content, Gunzilla aims to expand its audience while staying responsive to user feedback.
Despite lingering concerns from some parts of the community, especially on the prize pool payment, the game's development remains active for now.
