Nicklaus Companies have announced that they have partnered with Hyperspaces Golf Club to launch the first professional championship golf course and members-only golf club in the metaverse.
This new virtual golf club aims to include the same design philosophies and standards of “the world’s leading golf course design firm” while mixing it up with “state-of-the-art” tech and “cutting-edge” terrain made by Hyperscapes. The partnership makes it possible for the two sides to create a high-quality metaverse experience featuring traditional golf course design from Nicklaus Design backed by advanced terrain generation systems made by Hyperscapes, enabling the creation of a playable Nicklaus golf course that will provide user experiences that are “impossible in the physical world.”
Leading Nicklaus Design’s golf design team is Chad Goetz, who is a Senior Design Associate at Nicklaus Design and a member of the American Golf Course Architects Society.
The CEO of Nicklaus Companies, Phil Cotton, had the following to say in the announcement:
“The core of Nicklaus Design has always been the artistry and knowledge of our designers and their understanding and respect for the historical traditions of the game of golf. Over the years, we’ve built on the traditions of our founder, Jack Nicklaus, to design more than 435 golf courses on six continents, reflecting almost every style of course design on a wide variety of sites – many in places that had never seen a modern golf course. We now bring that unprecedented, real-world expertise to the virtual world.”
The virtual 18-hole golf course is set to include photo-realistic 3D scenery with challenging golf design and unique hole features. In order to become a member of this metaverse golf club, users will need to purchase Hyperscape membership tokens, giving them access to not only play the course, but also access to a virtual golf resort. A total of 300 NFTs is set to be minted for the first metaverse golf resort, which the Hyperscapes website states is “a level of exclusivity on par with the most prestigious golf communities in the world.”
Gabor Tankovics, the CEO and co-founder of Hyperscapes Golf Club, added:
“We selected Nicklaus Design not only because of the leadership position it has achieved in the golf course design business over the last 50 years, but also for the firm’s consistently demonstrated willingness to enter unexplored markets and embrace new technologies throughout its storied history. Working with Nicklaus Design, we have access to the most experienced golf designers in the world. Together, we are developing a suite of tools which bring to our Metaverse golf play the exact hand-crafted process the Nicklaus Design team uses on their physical golf courses.”
