NEXPACE has announced its biggest seasonal update for MapleStory N (MSN), set to begin rolling out on December 18. Called the "V" update, it brings major new content, such as the long-awaited Fifth Job Advancement, multiple new regions and bosses, and a full lineup of winter events. The update is also designed to strengthen the core gameplay loop while introducing changes to MSN's web3 systems.

MapleStory N Introduces Fifth Job Advancement With V Matrix

The main highlight of the update is the launch of the Fifth Job Advancement. This long-requested feature adds a new stage of growth for player characters and introduces the V Matrix, a system where players can build and customize their skills by managing Nodes. These Nodes can be enhanced or created, offering new strategies and ways to improve character builds.

This system first appeared in the original MapleStory and now becomes a key part of MSN's progression. By tailoring skills through the V Matrix, players can take on tougher challenges and fine-tune their combat style.

New Regions and Bosses Expand Mid-to-Late Game

The V update adds several well-known regions from the MapleStory universe. These include Vanishing Journey, Chu Chu Island, and Lachelein. With these areas comes new content centered on the Arcane Symbol and Arcane Umbra equipment systems, giving players more gear to chase as they move deeper into the game.

New bosses also enter the scene, including Guardian Angel Slime and Lucid, bringing fresh challenges that align with the new power curve introduced by the Fifth Job. A full remaster of the Cygnus Knights is also part of the update, revamping one of the game's key character classes and making them more viable in the later stages of the game.

Early Game Tweaks and QoL Improvements

Along with the big content drops, NEXPACE is also making changes to streamline progression. From December 18, the required EXP to level up to 200 will be reduced, speeding up the early game. This allows players to reach the new Fifth Job content faster.

New character and equipment presets will be introduced, letting players switch builds without friction. Group play is also being improved. A new party recruitment system will make it easier to find groups for boss content. Players will be able to automatically join and leave parties when entering or exiting key content.

Boss fight mechanics are also being refined. Battle patterns are getting an update to make them clearer without losing challenge, helping players better understand and master boss mechanics.

Economic System Updates: NESO Rewards and AFK Farming

As part of a push to refine the in-game economy, NEXPACE is overhauling NESO rewards from boss fights. NESO is the currency players earn through gameplay that can later be brought on-chain. These changes aim to better align rewards with player effort.

An AFK farming event is also on the way. This system will help reduce the need for long grinding sessions by letting players gather resources passively for a limited time. While full details have not been shared, the feature appears designed to cut down on player fatigue while still rewarding activity.

Mega Burning and Vlessing Winter Events Begin December 18

To mark the winter season and the rollout of the V update, MapleStory N will run several events from December 18, 2025 to February 26, 2026. The Mega Burning event returns, offering 2 bonus levels for each level gained. This speeds up character development and helps both new and returning players catch up.

The Vlessing Winter event will run during the same period, offering unique rewards and special collaboration items. These events seek to pull in a wide player base, adding value for both seasoned players and newcomers.

A Note From NEXPACE's CEO

Sunyoung Hwang, CEO of NEXPACE, stated that the update is a key milestone for the game, calling it a turning point. He emphasized that the Fifth Job content will offer a major shift in gameplay and progression. He also mentioned that the update marks an important step in joining MSN's growth-based gameplay with its web3 systems.

"The December 18 update marks an important milestone as we bring the Fifth Job Advancement, which was a major turning point in the MapleStory IP, to MSN. The expansion of core content will deliver a meaningful shift in player experience, and this update represents a significant step in uniting MSN's unique growth-focused gameplay with its evolving web3 narrative," said Hwang.

NXPC Token Burn and Web3 Ecosystem Background

MapleStory N sits within the MapleStory Universe (MSU), the web3 arm of Nexon's long-running franchise. Launched on May 15, 2025, the game runs on the Henesys Layer 1 chain and offers gas-free gameplay. Users can create and trade items without paying transaction fees.

MSN uses two main currencies. NESO is earned in-game and can be brought on-chain, while NXPC is the broader utility token used across the MSU platform. Players can spend NXPC to mint NFTs through a process called Fission. They can also burn NFTs through Fusion to earn NXPC back. This loop connects game activity to token usage.

On November 27, NEXPACE carried out its first-ever NXPC token burn. The burn removed over 3.8 million tokens, based on revenue pulled in during Q2 and Q3 of 2025. Future burns will take place quarterly, with 20% of revenue from player activity used for each event. The tokens are sent to the widely used 0x burn address, permanently locking them out of circulation.

The Henesys chain doesn't support burning or minting at the token level, so this method is used to guarantee token removal. After each burn, the platform releases public reports with transaction details and on-chain proof.

Along with the token burn, NEXPACE also published an updated NXPC whitepaper. It now includes a clearer breakdown of temporary vs. permanent token removals, updated explanations for Fusion and Fission rates, and new logic for token flows. It also introduces a new Treasury category in the allocation model and expands the Builder Program, which helps developers build tools and content for the MSU platform.

Ecosystem Fund and Global Expansion

Just a week before the token burn, on November 20, NEXPACE also announced a $50 million Ecosystem Fund. This initiative will support projects that expand the MSU universe. The focus is on AI, digital finance, and user-created tools that support the in-game economy.

The fund seeks to grow the MSU user base and attract new developers. Strategic partners in this effort include Chainlink Labs, Altos Ventures, Hashed, and GSR.
