Music Artist 3LAU Sold Almost $175.000 in 9 Minutes

The American DJ and producer 3LAU sold 175 copies of his crypto art Everything within nine minutes. Each edition sold for 999 dollars, which means that 3LAU earned 174.825 dollars within that time frame. In addition the DJ is auctioning an unique artwork. All his artworks combine tokenized music with both a digital and a physical artwork.

According to Nifty Gateway the tokenized audio will be redeemable by anybody who holds the open edition digital artwork at the time of the redemption page going live next week. The physical artwork combines the looks of the digital asset with the sound wave of the music. In addition 3LAU is also auctioning a piece called Everything Canvas, which is an unique digital artwork that also comes with a physical version. The artwork sold for $77.827. (added auction price: 24/1/2021)

3LAU has been a supporter of blockchain technology for quite some time. He can be considered a frontrunner. As a matter of fact, this wasn't even his first crypto art release. Last year he sold several artworks through Nifty Gateway as well. He's not only selling, but also buying. 3LAU holds artworks on Nifty Gateway from for example Twisted Vacancy, Slime Sunday and Jakub Spacek.

What is crypto art?

Crypto art is a piece of digital art that is tokenized on the blockchain as a non-fungible token. That means that the owner of the token will always hold a proven and original copy of a piece of art. Just like physical art, there can be unlimited copies. But ultimately there can only be one Mona Lisa.

Mostly we value art for its aesthetics and cultural relevance, but above all on the ability to verify the creator and its proven rarity. With blockchain technology these last two features are part of the blockchain. Everybody can see and confirm who minted these original creations.

The concept of seeing a digital image as art, is one thing. However, for many people it will be a challenge to consider digital images as valuable. Consider this: The Mona Lisa is worth many millions of dollars. If I would paint the Mona Lisa in an exact copy, it would be worth only 50 dollars. Because we all know where the original version is. Being able to verify the authenticity and rarity of a piece of art is crucial. In the end everything can be art. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a still image, moving image, video, music or a combination of everything.
