Following last month’s launch of Farm Royale, a PvP leaderboard event in free to play farming and life sim RPG Moonfrost, developer Oxalis Games has announced that Alpha Release 5 is just around the corner, revealing numerous big updates that’ll give closed alpha players an even better blockchain gaming experience.
Though this “isn’t the biggest update” according to the Discord announcement, the patch notes reveal a variety of big new additions and improvements, among which is even another new game mode.
To make sure the new game mode is as fun as possible, the team is updating Build Mode with various improvements. These upgrades include accurate item placement, and the addition of wall occlusion to make it easier to see what you’re doing. Roofs are also mentioned in the list of updates, but these are said to be a work in progress and as such will not be available in this latest launch.
Alongside welcome changes to Build Mode, the game is officially getting an XP system, meaning you will now be able to level up by earning XP from doing Tasks and crafting Blueprints. This will give you the opportunity to show off “your achievements (via House Hunter events) and climb the ranks as a top-tier FROST-Hunter.”
The Task System is getting an overhaul to make it “more dynamic, impactful, and FUN.” To do this, Task System 2.0 is bringing special XP-based Tasks and the ability to unlock new gameplay features by completing certain missions. Daily Tasks are also said to be important to complete if you want to gain Craftcoin, which will be needed for the House Hunters event. Next to Walter and Ash, you will now also pick up quests from 2 new NPCs. All these characters are now set to be in the village, serving as the focal points through which you progress through the main task line that now will reveal more about these folks to help “build the foundations” of the game’s story in this cozy pixelated world.
Before we talk about the new game mode, there are also a number of quality-of-life enhancements coming your way. Among these is the option to change your username using the account portal. Other additions include UI updates, improved anti-bot/multi-accounting protocols, a better password reset system at the account portal, and enhanced tech server support that should lead to fewer connection issues.
The new game mode in question is House Hunters, an event-based feature that will now be in-game and in which you will get to use Blueprints to craft and decorate various structures. Blueprints can be earned by farming crops and finishing Tasks, while building takes place on a different map that is separate from the main one. This means that in this mode, you don’t need any resources to create what you want, but you do need to unlock Blueprints through your usual gameplay that you can then use in the mode.
As this is an event-based mode, you can look forward to the first event taking place at some point in January 2025, but once this alpha version is live, you can already start unlocking Blueprints to get ready to participate. Players will compete to create the best builds for a chance at winning valuable rewards. Winners of this creative event are decided by community voting, while the prizes are set to include SHARDs, unique blueprints, and rare items. SHARDs are planned to be used to unlock unique gameplay content, may be linked in some way to the upcoming $FROST token, for which there is no TGE yet.
While this event was hosted in previous closed alpha stages, it was never integrated in-game in the way that it will be now.
The 5th alpha release of Moonfrost is planned to come out in the next few days, with no official date currently available due to the team waiting for their build to be approved on the Epic Games Store. That being said, the standalone launcher will not be supported for this release. As much as the team wants to give players another option next to Epic’s launcher, the patch notes state that their custom launcher is “too costly to maintain” during this alpha phase. If you played through the studio’s launcher before, don’t worry, you will get to claim a code that you can redeem in the Epic Games Store to play this new version.
If you’ve never participated in previous Alpha Releases and would like to jump in now, you should sign up on the game’s official website before December 9th. The team states that there are 1000 new codes up for grabs, so be sure to sign up as soon as possible, as these codes are distributed on a first come, first serve basis. Once you get the code, make sure to redeem it within 72 hours. If you don’t, the team will remove your code and give it to someone else instead.
All player progress (except SHARDs) is reset at the end of each closed alpha release, and this one is no exception. There is one new change though, and that is the addition of a limited edition collectible. You can keep it after release, and in order to get it, you will need to go through the whole task event to be rewarded with this exclusive item that will be locked to your account and usable in upcoming releases. Doing this will also get you early access to a new gameplay feature planned to come out in the 6th closed alpha, and you can only get this collectible during this release, making this a great time to hop into this early version of Moonfrost and experience its beautiful relaxing world as it continues to gradually develop.
