Moca Network has officially announced the launch of Proof of Build, a new 10-day global online hackathon set to run in the final days of September 2025. The event is targeted at founders, developers, designers, and product visionaries across the world and will wrap up with a live Demo Day in Singapore during Token2049, one of the biggest global events in the web3 space.
The hackathon is fully online but leads into a live, in-person showcase. Top teams will present their work on September 29 at Moca Network's Demo Day in Singapore, giving them a global stage in front of investors, founders, media, and the broader web3 community attending Token2049.
What the Event Is About
Proof of Build is a buildathon focused on solving problems with decentralized identity. The theme, Identity Unlocked, invites participants to build working products that use verifiable credentials (VCs) and Moca Network's Open Identity Stack on the Moca Chain. This means you aren't just experimenting. You're expected to deliver tools or services that solve real-world problems using Web3 identity tech.
The format is structured but intense. It begins with online onboarding, keynotes, and technical workshops. From there, all teams will enter an 8-day hacking phase, supported by mentors and regular check-ins. After the build phase, participants get one day to polish their pitches before a final round of live presentations during the IRL Demo Day in Singapore.
The main idea is to show that onchain identity is not just theory. Moca Network wants to help make it something developers can build with now, and something users can actually use.
A Timely Focus on Identity
The announcement of this hackathon comes at a time when the web3 space is actively looking for more secure and decentralized ways to manage identity. Traditional login systems like Single Sign-On (SSO) remain the norm, but they raise concerns about data privacy, control, and centralization. The Proof of Build event aims to move the conversation forward by showing how identity systems can be rebuilt on web3 infrastructure.
By inviting builders from around the world to contribute, and then showcasing their work live at Token2049, Moca Network is creating a strong link between real development and wider adoption.
Who Is Moca Network?
Moca Network is the identity division of Animoca Brands. It focuses on building the tools and infrastructure needed to support digital identity in the open internet. Moca Network is behind AIR Kit, a developer toolkit that helps apps and services integrate verifiable credentials, smart accounts, and permission systems.
The team is looking to make it easy for builders and users to take control of their identity across the apps and services they use, without handing over that control to centralized platforms.
Moca Network supports over 570 companies and could potentially reach more than 700 million users. Its tools are already used by mainstream services like SK Planet's OK Cashbag (with 28 million verified users) and One Football (which has over 200 million users).
Moca Chain: The Infrastructure for Identity
Moca Network is a launch partner for Moca Chain, a Layer 1 blockchain announced by the Moca Foundation back in June. Moca Chain is designed to handle digital identity and user data, giving individuals and digital agents full control over their information. It avoids the need for large tech companies to manage user credentials.
Moca Chain is EVM-compatible and modular. It connects with other blockchains and works as a base identity layer for both onchain and off-chain activity. It uses a mix of zero-knowledge proofs, cross-chain oracles, and decentralized storage to make sure identity data is private and verifiable.
MOCA Coin is the chain's native token and will be used for gas, staking, storage, and all identity services.
Yat Siu, co-founder and executive chairman of Animoca Brands, described the purpose of Moca Chain as a way to move beyond the weaknesses of SSO systems. These centralized systems, he noted, can be points of failure and are often used to extract value from users. Moca Chain, by contrast, aims to put users in control.
AIR Kit and the Push for Verified Data
Moca Network's AIR Kit SDK plays a key role in this push. It gives apps and developers a plug-and-play system for handling verified data, digital identity, and access control. By integrating AIR Kit with Moca Chain, the network is laying the groundwork for a new kind of internet experience, one where users own their data and credentials, and apps can trust the data they receive.
Project lead Kenneth Shek stated that the combination of Moca Chain and AIR Kit is unique. Together, they offer a framework for apps and users to share verified identity data, making it easier to build trust without giving up privacy or control.
Recent Milestone: MocaPortfolio Launch
Earlier this month, Moca Network rolled out another major update with the launch of MocaPortfolio, a new system for token allocations. The launch introduces a way for MOCA Coin holders and Mocaverse NFT owners to access a share of $20 million worth of token drops from projects in the Animoca Brands ecosystem.
Unlike one-time airdrops, MocaPortfolio uses a structured, ongoing model. Users earn what's called Staking Power by staking their MOCA Coins or NFTs. This Staking Power is then burned to register for upcoming token allocation events.
The first allocation will involve the Magic Eden (ME) token, with more partner tokens planned later this year. Mocaverse NFT holders will get extra benefits like rate boosts when staking.
Kenneth Shek explained that MocaPortfolio is about helping users grow with the projects they support. By taking part, users don't just collect tokens; they also engage with the teams and tools behind them.
This system also fits into the bigger picture of Moca Network's tokenomics and sustainability model. It adds another layer to how MOCA Coin works inside the platform.
A Closer Look at Moca Network's Direction
No doubt, Moca Network has been quite active in recent months, with several updates that show its strong focus on web3 identity. These include the launch of MocaPortfolio, the development of Moca Chain, and the continued rollout of its AIR Kit tools.
The Proof of Build event fits into that direction. It invites teams to build working products that use Moca's tech stack, with a focus on digital identity and credentials.
The Demo Day on September 29 during Token2049 in Singapore will show what these teams have created. It will also give the community a chance to see how Moca Network's ideas around onchain identity are being explored through real projects.
