The Mist Metaverse team announced earlier this week its very own EVM blockchain called the Mist Chain.

Powered by the $MIST token, the new network is said to provide 1-click MetaMask integration, fast transactions with low fees and support for all kinds of dApps, though it’s primarily geared towards Web3 games.

As the chain is fully EVM compatible and supports dApp deployment with Solidity, developers can seamlessly migrate without the need of changing any code.

While no details on when the mainnet will officially launch seem to available, all who are interested will be able to try out the testnet in the meantime. The testnet is going live this Friday, with the developers commemorating the release with a special competition you can partake in for a chance at getting testnet tokens, priority access and an exclusive limited edition NFT.

According to the announcement post, the team will look to offer support to interested creators, as well as grants to incentivize developers to build on this new network, with more details set to come out in the future.

With this reveal, some of the game’s community has raised concerns over the future of the MMO itself. As a result, the developers have decided to clarify and state that the development of the Mist Chain does not interfere with the progress being made on the blockchain MMO, saying that “our primary development task remains the Mist MMO” and that the new network will be “another potential arm of the Mist Metaverse Ecosystem” that they are at present regarding as a “research and development task to assess its use cases,” making the chain a “focus of the Blockchain and Research and Development arms of the Studio.”
