Gala Games has published their latest issue of “Latest and Greatest” in which they’ve revealed the latest development updates made this Q1 2024 for their fantasy RPG Mirandus, while teasing an upcoming tech test with a few sneak peek screenshots.
For this quarter, the team has been focusing on fixing various issues and refining the game’s visuals in order to provide a polished experience. They’ve also had an offsite meetup in Austin, Texas near the end of last week, where they talked about important game design decisions with the game’s directors and key community members, revealing that they have decided on how to move forward with vital features such as looting and Exemplar data, among others.
As for specific tech stack updates, one of the things that the developers have done includes making significant progress in solving dependency issues with the asset bundle system, which should mean that the build download size has now been massively improved. The list of updates also mentions improvements for tools used by the environment art team, reworks of ModRequests into a new “fully server-authoritative format,” the creation of an automated unit test that lets the team know if something with items breaks when they’re tweaked, and many more quality-of-life changes that should help in improving the team’s development workflow.
A new tech test is on its way, with the above two images giving us a glimpse at some of the environments you could get to explore once it goes live. According to the official post, the upcoming test will be crucial for solving “the most elusive problems” while monitoring the tech stack and running real-time diagnostics on various bugs. Servers may go down during the test if any huge issues pop up, and some aspects and features of the game may end up being disabled throughout the testing period to allow for proper troubleshooting.
