The developers of risk to earn MMO Cambria have announced the minting of Cores for this Friday, December 20th, at 11 AM ET on the Ronin network.

What Are Cambria Cores?

Cores represent the 2nd NFT collection for this browser-based 2D fantasy title. They’re referred to as Factory NFTs and they essentially serve as the foundation of the game’s blockchain-powered economy that enable optional, player-driven collectible trading. By staking these assets, you will get to participate in a player-owned market where holders have control over the creation of new on-chain items, such as Companions, Skins, Lootboxes, and more. This way, the developers are giving the community control over the web3-powered economy, allowing players to handle item issuance instead of the studio directly selling the assets themselves through microtransactions.

New players who don’t own Factory NFTs will be able to get various items only from the player-owned secondary market, while the studio profits from royalties generated by trading volume, with the revenue earned set to be used to further continue developing the game and expanding the ecosystem, improving both the actual game and the collectible trading side of it as well.

When staking Cores, you will be able to earn Shards, the primary soulbound resource needed to mint new Skins and Companions. Shards are burned when using them to create these new NFTs. There are 2 types of Shards: Companion Shards and Skin Shards. Both types are generated while staking, and you can’t trade or transfer them as they are soulbound to your wallet. If you ever unstake your NFT or transfer it, any Shards you have in your wallet will continue to remain.

What Are Cambria Companions and Skins?

Companions are unique in-game tradable pets that are divided into 6 main archetypes: Human, Feline, Avian, Griffin, Wyvern, and Gargoyle. Each archetype has a different rarity, making certain types more difficult to summon. You can have them follow you around on your adventures, leave them on your island, or even make them invisible by changing the display settings. Whichever way you choose, you will still get to enjoy the benefits these Companions provide, which include automated tasks, bank space, Focus point regeneration, and more.

Using Shards, you will be able to mint random new Companions, with summoning costs said to be based on real-time “Dynamic Pricing with Variable Rate Gradual Dutch Auctions (VRGDAs),” meaning that new pets initially have a high mint price that is gradually lowered over time to become aligned with the game’s growth. The system adapts however based on demand, with prices going up or down in real time “based on whether sales are ahead or behind the current schedule.”

Skins are cosmetics that will initially only be designed for Companions to equip, with future versions set to expand the collection to add more variety, introducing weapon skins, equipment skins, emotes, stickers, and more. They don't bring any gameplay benefits, changing only visual appearances. Core holders can look forward to seeing Skins released through 2 mechanisms: Lootbox Collections, and Limited Edition releases. There will also be a rare Skin pool that can only be accessed by holders who own a T2 Core or one of higher tier.

Lootboxes can be earned in-game, but can only be unlocked using Keys, which have a fixed mint cost. Proceeds from Keys will go to a shared pool that Shard holders can randomly win depending on the number of Shards they hold. The more Shards you have, the higher the chances you have of winning this pool, so you may want to think twice before choosing to spend them on Limited Edition Skins.

Limited Edition Skins will be released by the developers from time to time for Core holders to buy on a bonding curve using Shards, giving NFT stakers the power to choose which cosmetics are minted for other players to buy and use in-game.

How to Participate in the Cambria Cores Mint

The Cambria Cores collection features a total of 10,000 Factory NFTs that will be up for grabs on the Ronin network for eligible participants through the Mavis Market this Friday, December 20th at 11 AM ET, for the mint price of 20 $RON per NFT. You will want to import your wallet used to play Cambria into the Ronin Wallet to get ready to join in. Check out the official guide to learn more.

You will be minting a random Factory NFT, with the chance of getting one of the following tiers:

  • Normal Core (T1) - 80% of supply
  • Enhanced Core (T2) - 15%
  • Mystic Core (T3) - 4%
  • Arcane Core (T4) - 1%

You’ll have to wait 1 week after the mint date to find out which tier your NFT is. The higher the tier, the more Shards your Core will generate. As previously mentioned, those lucky enough to get a T2 or higher NFT will also benefit from access to a rare Skin pool that cannot be unlocked in any other way.

The official mint page is not up as of writing, but the collection’s official page seems to be live.

To participate, you need to be whitelisted in one of 3 different allocations: Free Mint, Guaranteed, or FCFS phase for whitelisted players. There is no public mint. Cambria’s founder has announced how the total supply is distributed in an official X post, which also contains a link to an allocation checker where you can see if your wallet qualifies for this mint. If you played in Season 1 of Cambria, then you should have a whitelist spot for the FCFS phase.
