Microsoft is Rumored to Add Crypto Wallets to its New Xbox Console

What Microsoft's new Xbox lineup has in store

According to leaked documents from the gaming forum Resetera, Microsoft could be developing a set of new features for its upcoming gaming console, Gen 10, including support for crypto wallets, voice chat, and player achievements.

The next-gen Xbox system will integrate AI and machine learning, which will be used for in-game character dialogue generation and frame rate improvements. According to a leaked slide deck from May 2022, Microsoft also plans to introduce newer versions of the current Xbox models, citing "Brooklin," the codename for a "refresh" of its Xbox Series X console, and "Ellewood," a slightly revamped Xbox Series S, as well as "Sebile," a new Xbox controller with a tilt sensor, quieter buttons and the ability to connect to a mobile app.

Gen 10 is set for release in 2028 after the Xbox Series X and S revamp. The leaked documents shared a list of Gen 10 offerings, which included consoles, phones, web browsers, a handheld system, PCs, a "cloud console," and a shared operating system across devices. Crypto wallets, voice chat, player achievements, AI, and machine learning integration are some of the features said to be supported.

As of now, the Redmond-based company has yet to confirm or deny the leaked reports. Given that these documents date back to May 2022, many industry watchers cautioned that Microsoft's plans could have shifted since then.

Even so, it appears that the firm is interested in adding crypto support to its suite of products. As previously reported, data miners revealed that the corporation is also working on a non-custodial Ethereum (ETH) wallet, which would be integrated into Edge, Microsoft's proprietary web browser. In May 2023, Microsoft partnered with Goldman Sachs, Cboe, and other financial firms to launch Canton Network, a privacy-focused blockchain network designed to support institutional assets across the globe.
