Open Portal Studios, the developers of MetaOps, a tactical first-person shooter, have officially announced that the Solana and Avalanche-based title is now a free-to-play game, allowing anyone on Windows PCs to dive in action-packed shootouts.

Made in the Unity engine, the blockchain FPS pits players in 6v6 PvP gameplay across two different maps and 3 different game modes, which include Free for All, Team Deathmatch and Capture the Flag.

According to the announcement from the game’s co-founder in their official Discord server, the transition to making the title free-to-play has been done in order to make it more accessible for everyone and thus try to increase the playerbase this way, as current players will find it easier to invite their friends over now that there is not NFT requirement to play.

Those who are NFT holders however will still be the ones getting exclusive tournaments to participate in, each of course featuring exclusive prizes to compete for. Recently, owners of the exclusive Scarlet Summit set were able to take part in the Scarlet Summit tournament for a chance at earning a share of the $2k prize pool. That doesn’t mean there won’t be free tournaments though, such as the Polygon Launch Tournament held in January this year in partnership with the Fractal marketplace.
