MetaMask has recently introduced new experimental features to the latest version of its browser extension, adding in the option to opt in to NFT auto-detection as well as the option to have warnings displayed when signing transactions and signature requests from known scams.
These new experimental features have been introduced in version v10.28 and are a welcome one for NFT enthusiasts, as it’s now possible to have NFTs from OpenSea automatically detected and shown in your wallet thanks to OpenSea’s API. Not only can you now get a view of your ERC-721 and ERC-1155 non-fungible tokens from OpenSea, but you can also now send ERC-721 tokens to other wallets straight from your MetaMask. According to the Twitter thread from the Web3 wallet’s official Twitter account, it’ll soon be possible to send ERC-1155 NFTs too.
That’s not all, though. Thanks to OpenSea and Blockaid, the MetaMask team has also introduced NFT scam warnings to their wallet as another experimental feature users can turn on by heading to the Experimental section in Settings and toggling on OpenSea as a transaction security provider. Through their third-party API, MetaMask is able to warn users of known scams when attempting to sign a transaction or signature request, thanks to a blocklist of known scams from OpenSea and “Blockaid’s analysis of malicious behaviors” that include wallet draining and signature farming.
While scam detection of course cannot completely replace due diligence, it certainly is a positive step forward to ensuring a more secure Web3 experience.
Last month, MetaMask developer ConsenSys released their own Unity SDK and revealed their Layer 2 zk-rollup called Linea.
