McDonald’s Releases Its Own Metaverse in Singapore

“My Happy Place” is a new metaverse experience launched by McDonald’s Singapore in collaboration with Bandwagon Labs. Available through the fast food giant’s official app, Singapore customers can explore a 3D world featuring exclusive prizes and interactive games, with holders of Grimace Digital Collectibles getting special benefits in the digital experience.
McDonald’s Releases Its Own Metaverse in Singapore

In collaboration with Bandwagon Labs, the Web3 division of tech company Bandwagon, McDonald’s has officially released its own metaverse in Singapore: “My Happy Place”.

Launch Details

My Happy Place is the multinational fast food chain’s very first in-app metaverse featuring exclusive wearables and interactive games for McDonald’s Singapore customers to enjoy using the official McDonald’s app.

Following the launch, Drina Chee, the Senior Director, Marketing & Digital Customer Experience at McDonald’s, said the following:

“We’re excited to launch McDonald’s Singapore’s first digital experience. Our customers can dress their avatars in McDonald’s outfits, design their dream restaurant, and win daily phygital rewards, elevating how they experience McDonald’s. Working with Bandwagon Labs has enabled us to pioneer new frontiers in digital collectibles and today a metaverse right through the McDonald’s app.”

Users can set up their dream restaurant while unlocking exclusive prizes and merchandise through this virtual world, which is built using Bandwagon Labs’ lightweight metaverse tech, BW.LAND, making McDonald’s the first brand to use it. By playing in this metaverse, customers have a chance of winning a year of free meals, as well as various daily deals through the Wheel of Deals.

Grimace DC Holder Benefits

This isn’t the first time the 2 sides have worked together; Bandwagon Labs previously became a partner for McDonald’s Singapore with the goal of launching a digital collectible collection of 2000 official Grimace DC soulbound tokens in 2023. They were free to claim for users of the official app in Singapore on Polygon, with each Grimace having its own randomly-generated design. Holders of these digital collectibles had the opportunity to attend a preview of My Happy Place a day before launch, with the assets also rewarding owners with special benefits in the new digital experience. These in-app benefits include the ability to unlock exclusive wearables, access a secret island, and “display Grimace portraits in the Restaurant of the Future.”

Last year, McDonald's celebrated the Lunar New Year in the Spatial metaverse, while McDonald's Hong Kong collaborated with The Sandbox for a virtual reality experience.
