Web3 esports gaming platform Mahjong Meta has officially announced that they managed to secure an astounding $12 million in a funding round led by Dragonfly, a crypto venture fund.
These new funds will be used for product development and expansion of the Web3 gaming ecosystem in an effort to improve the current experience while aiming to reach a wider audience. Next to the lead investor, other participants that were a part of this round include Parallel Ventures, Meteorite Labs, Folius Ventures, Find Satoshi Lab, and Emoote.
The founder of Mahjong Meta, Brice Vong, said the following in the official announcement:
“We are honored to have Dragonfly as our lead investor. Web3 and crypto are poised to revolutionize the gaming industry, creating a decentralized and innovative ecosystem that will pave the way for a global and immersive gaming experience. We share the same visionary outlook with Dragonfly for this promising future, and Dragonfly brings invaluable support and expertise to our journey.”
The on-chain gaming platform, focused on mahjong esports that is based on Riichi Mahjong, came out in open beta on May 12th, and has since then garnered more than 15k registered users who played in over 490k matches. Next to playing ranked matches, participating in tournaments and playing mahjong-themed mini-games in the Playground, players can also have their own NFT pets referred to as “Tamas”. These pets can be deployed for matches thanks to customized AI strategies that make automatic mahjong battles possible.
Since August 7th, the platform is no longer in open beta, but is now officially live and accessible through web browsers, with the whitepaper mentioning Google Chrome, Safari, and Microsoft Edge as the recommended browsers.
