Scheduled to begin on March 17th, Alpha 2.0, or Season 2 of the alpha version of monster collecting RPG Kuroro Wilds, has been officially suspended, according to the developers of the Kuroro Beasts gaming ecosystem.

Why Has the Kuroro Wilds Alpha 2.0 Launch Been Suspended?

A day before Kuroro Wilds Alpha 2.0 was supposed to launch, the developers officially announced on X and Discord that they have decided to suspend this release. The reason why Alpha Season 2 was suspended is explained in the detailed announcement in the ecosystem’s official Discord server. In short, Kuroro Wilds Alpha 2.0 has been suspended because the build used an engine that had too many issues, and the developers did not want to waste time and resources to continue supporting it, opting to focus on what is looking to be the better-prepared beta version instead. Season 2 was supposed to be a new play to airdrop opportunity with new missions, bosses, a new VIP Pass, Season 1 reward distribution, and more.

The Discord announcement reveals that the team working on this web3 game has actually spent the past few months working on 2 different builds: Wilds Alpha and Wilds Beta. This meant that internally, the studio has been split into 2 different teams in order to steadily develop both versions of this game.

Wilds Alpha is the older project that uses an experimental engine to make various prototypes in order to define what Wilds is actually supposed to be. The team kept trying to add and improve on various features using the Alpha engine, but they eventually hit a roadblock, as the codebase at one point was simply no longer scalable, and the infrastructure was also missing crucial features for this kind of game, including multiplayer and networking features. On top of all that, the engine simply made everything more complex, slow, and expensive to work with then it should be, so the team didn’t want to continue building in this engine for the long-term.

Last month, the web3 gaming community was able to try out Kuroro Wilds Alpha and play to airdrop for a share of 30 million $KURO tokens through an event referred to as “The Arrival”. This allowed everyone to see and experience what the team made so far while helping developers collect constructive feedback on important elements such as combat. The initial plan was to simply launch that build and move everyone to focus on Wilds Beta. However, the launch was pretty successful, with the team reporting impressive stats that include 120k DAU, 250k WAU, and a total of 400k users enjoying the limited-time play to airdrop period.

Not only were the numbers good, but so was the reception. The team garnered “overwhelmingly positive feedback” from the community, and since people liked the game so much, the developers thought it would be great to push out a second release with more content to have fun with. Unfortunately, “upon further examining the state of the code base this week, the team split, and our roadmap, we found ourselves in a place where it does not make sense to release Alpha 2.0” - there was simply too many issues, and the amount of time and resources needed to be invested to fix an engine they wanted to leave in the first place was too much. If they committed to doing all that, they would need a lot more time to prepare, plus support everything throughout the event, and calculate “all the results and prizes for the P2A,” all of which would delay the team’s final roadmap.

As a result, the developers thought it best to abandon Alpha 2.0, and have the entire Wilds team focus on the work-in-progress beta version instead to make sure it can properly launch later this year. The Alpha was meant to be a proof of concept, but the Beta aims to expand on the foundation and deliver an even better blockchain gaming experience.

Kuroro Beasts Shares New Roadmap Ahead of $KURO TGE

In the same shutdown announcement, the Kuroro team teased their upcoming new roadmap ahead of the $KURO TGE. Here’s what it currently looks like:

  • Ronin Migration of Origins and Gen2 Beasts
  • Origin Staking Migration to Ronin
  • Launch of Kuroro Ancients in Ronin
  • Beast Brawl Revival with new Features and P2A
  • Kuroro Wilds Beta Launch, new Features, game loop, and P2A
  • [REDACTED]
  • TGE
  • Sponsorship, $KURO Staking, Status System & Teams
  • Much more!

This roadmap is set to kick in starting in April. The Discord announcement further mentions that “consolidation of all your $KURO sources that are now displayed in the Hub is also part of this plan,” because there is now only one account system for their entire creature collecting web3 gaming ecosystem.

The Kuroro Beasts team will look to share updates on Wilds Beta throughout these months.

“We know this might come as a disappointment in the immediate term, but trust us, it will be for the best of the project; the team is laser-focused on the success of Kuroro, and we will be relentless in executing the above plan.”

The developers plan to meet up with “industry leaders, partners, and investors” this week at this year’s GDC (Game Developers Conference) in San Francisco.
