The Chill (or Chilled) Playtest is now live until May 23rd, giving Calamity players an opportunity to win an exclusive cosmetic NFT by playing the 2D MMORPG for free.

What Is Calamity’s Chill Playtest?

Calamity’s Chill Playtest is a new limited time opportunity to try out the web3 MMORPG while providing constructive feedback and earning an exclusive NFT in the process. From May 14th to May 23rd, 10 AM UTC, everyone has a chance to explore and enjoy the game for free while acquiring Jin’s Katana NFT, a limited cosmetic reward that is likely being given out for this playtest only. Everyone who collects 15,000 Valor Points is rewarded with the on-chain asset.

This event represents the game’s very first playtest on the Ronin network, which comes about a month after hosting the Incentivized Playtest on the Treasure Chain. Earlier this year, the developers even migrated Artifact NFTs from Base to Treasure, but following Treasure DAO’s AI-focused strategic pivot and its announcement of shutting down the Treasure Chain, this game already needed a new on-chain gaming home. To celebrate this transition, the team has decided to host this playtest and offer a limited cosmetic reward in the process. Here’s how you can jump in to earn Jin’s Katana NFT while time remains.

How to Earn Exclusive Katana NFT in Calamity’s Chill Playtest

To earn Jin’s exclusive Katana NFT in The Chill Playtest, you can get started by downloading Calamity for free on the Epic Games Store. You can also download standalone Windows and Mac builds through the game’s official Discord server, but those will require re-downloading every time there is a new update, whereas the one on the Epic Games Store features automatic updates.

Once you’re in, your goal is to earn 15,000 Valor Points before the special playtest ends on Friday, May 23rd, 10 AM UTC, in order to be rewarded with Jin’s Katana NFT skin, for which minting is set to take place shortly after the playtest is over.

To earn Valor Points, make your way to the Dungeon NPC located next to the portal in the middle of the City. From there, you can enter dungeons and complete quests to earn Valor Points. Once you’ve successfully completed a quest, you can claim Valor Points from it by opening the Quests tab using the book icon on the left side of the screen. The same Dungeon NPC also lets you check the Valor Leaderboard in order for you to see how many points you’ve collected so far.

Overall, by simply playing the game and completing quests, you should eventually be able to reach 15,000 Valor Points before the playtest is over. Doing so will qualify you for the unique cosmetic that should become available in the form of a free mint not long after the testing period is over. Getting it for free through a gameplay event won’t be possible in the future, so if you want to earn this prize, you should jump into the pixelated MMORPG world of Calamity as soon as you can on Windows or Mac.

A Sneak Peek of Calamity’s Upcoming Bigger Playtest

After The Chill Playtest is over, you can also look forward to playing in a “much bigger” playtest, according to a Discord announcement.

While we don’t know when the future playtest will start, the developers have provided a sneak peek to the blockchain gaming community to give everyone an idea of some of the major updates we can all look forward to enjoying soon.

The sneak peek reveals that some of the big updates coming in a future playtest include Boss Keys, Daily Quest limits, Item Level caps, 2-hour Daily Buffs, Dragon Ring staking & Ring Codes, wallet connection, and dApp integration.

“All of this is part of our long-term vision to balance the experience, fight unhealthy grinding, and lay the foundation for the Play-to-Airdrop Campaign & Seasonal Progression.”

With these updates, the team will prevent completion spamming the same quests as well as prohibit players from giving high-level equipment to new players. Boss Keys will make endless boss farming a thing of the past, while 2-hour Daily Buffs will give players increased EXP and drop rates for 2 hours every day. With dApp integration, players will also have the ability to connect their wallet in order to claim cosmetics, mint items from previous playtests, and more. Dragon Ring NFT holders will get to stake their assets, and it looks like those who do so can look forward to earning in-game multipliers, Dragons, and buff scrolls.
