Japan’s PM Fumio Kishida has recently hinted that a large Japanese company is working on a metaverse project that is set to be revealed, with the info interestingly timed with Binance’s plans to scale up services on its new Japanese platform in August this year.
Japan is one of the friendlier countries when it comes to the metaverse and similar, with the prime minister’s recent keynote address further solidifying this perspective by putting focus on how much potential Web3 has in spreading innovation across various different industries. Despite uncertain market conditions and perhaps a decreased interest in the metaverse both from a mainstream and investors perspective, Kishida’s recent hint at a Japanese metaverse project just shows that the idea might be here to stay if even advanced countries are still showing interest.
Their major companies certainly haven’t given up either, as Square Enix is one of the largest gaming publishers around who are still exploring what Web3 has to offer, being one of the earliest to do so as well in the gaming industry, while joining the Blockchain Game Alliance earlier this year to further show their commitment to this nascent space. The fact that such a huge company as Square Enix is able to freely navigate through these new technologies perhaps shows the regulatory freedom present in Japan, which could make it one of the countries that will lead the development of the blockchain gaming industry.
Next to the PM making this tease, Binance has coincidentally revealed that they will be rolling out full services on their new Japanese platform in August. Whether the crypto exchange has anything to do with Japan’s upcoming metaverse project has yet to be officially seen as of writing, but maybe it wouldn’t be surprising to see a collaboration take place.
