Irreverent Labs secures $40 million for MechaFightClub, a robot cockfighting NFT game

Blockchain game developer Irreverent Labs has successfully acquired an astonishing $40 million in their latest funding round. 

This information was revealed in a recent filing with the SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission). 11 investors are supposedly involved in the financing.

The purpose of this latest investment is to help the Seattle-based company supercharge development on its debut title, MechaFightClub, a robot cockfighting NFT game described by the developers as “the metaverse’s biggest fight club.”

Being built on Solana using the Unity game engine, the play-to-earn title sees players own upgradeable robotic roosters in the form of NFTs, mechabots which can be used for breeding but also for battling in the Cocktagon, the “metaverse’s biggest professional combat arena.”

Each robotic chicken is not only unique visually, but also genetically, featuring advanced machine learning AI that allows these NFTs to form their own one-of-a-kind personalities and fighting styles throughout their lifetime.

Planned to release in spring this year, the team will kick off with a Genesis NFT collection sale containing 6969 EGGs. These eggs will take a few weeks to hatch.

This isn’t the first time Irreverent Labs has raised millions. The crypto gaming startup previously raised $5 million in just 8 days back in November last year. The funding round was led by Andreessen Horowitz, while The Chainsmokers Mantis VC, AdvancIt Capital, Keen Crypto and Unlock Venture Partners also took part.

The CEO and co-founder of the company is Rahul Sood, former founder of Voodoo PC, Unikrn and Microsoft Ventures. He is also an investor in Zed Run, an NFT horse racing game.
