Immutable and Illuvium have just rolled out the Immutable Masters Illuvium Pro League (IPL). Starting October 3, the IPL 1000 tournament marks a new milestone for blockchain esports. The event begins with open qualifiers, followed by a high-stakes main event on October 4. The prize pool for this competition is $20,000.
This is the first official IPL event under the "Immutable Masters" banner and forms a core part of the wider IPL season. Immutable isn't just providing infrastructure. The company is also helping drive growth for Illuvium through marketing and exposure across the web3 space. Illuvium first announced the IPL season back in August and has now partnered with Immutable for this new tier of competition.
What Is the IPL 1000?
The IPL 1000 is the top-tier tournament in the Illuvium Pro League. It gives out the most points and the largest prize money among all events. The name "1000" reflects the number of IPL Points players can earn from it, which are used to qualify for the IPL's Main Event happening in December. The prize pool for this specific tournament is $20,000, making it the largest IPL competition to date outside of the Main Event.
Only 64 players can take part in an IPL 1000 tournament. Unlike the smaller IPL 250 and IPL 500 events, this one is invite-only. That makes it a key event for top-tier players who are aiming to lock in their spot for the year-end finals.
What Are the IPL Tiers?
Throughout the IPL season, there are 3 main types of tournaments: IPL 250, IPL 500, and IPL 1000. Each offers a different number of IPL Points and a different reward pool. IPL 250 events are the smallest, open to 32 players, and offer $2,000 in prizes. IPL 500 events step things up with 64-player brackets and a $5,000 prize pool. The IPL 1000 sits at the top with a $20,000 pool and the most qualifying points.
These tournaments are spaced out over a few months. Players can enter several of them to earn enough points to qualify for the Main Event in December, which comes with its own $150,000 prize pool.
Immutable's Role in the Partnership
Immutable is backing Illuvium not only by offering tech support through its game-focused blockchain platform but also by helping to market the IPL 1000. According to Immutable's Co-Founder Robbie Ferguson, the company has been supporting Illuvium since 2020, long before the launch of any games.
"We've been working with Illuvium since they first walked into our Sydney office in 2020 with a whitepaper and a vision," said Ferguson. "Building multiple titles into a single world, all tied together with on-chain assets, was bold, but it made sense to us. We've been excited to back them ever since."
Immutable brings to the table its suite of tools designed for web3 games. This includes Immutable Chain, a Layer 2 network built for scalability on Ethereum, and Immutable Passport, a secure login and wallet solution. Immutable Play, its growth platform for game developers, is also involved in helping events like IPL 1000 connect with players.
The Bigger Picture of the IPL
The full IPL season began in August 2025 and runs through early December. It’s a months-long competitive run where players can qualify for the $150,000 Main Event. Illuvium set the total prize pool for the entire IPL season at $250,000. CEO Kieran Warwick confirmed that the team is starting small, with $14 million already allocated for future prize pools if they decide to scale.
"We wanted to start modestly. We've got over $14 million earmarked for prize pools, so when it's time to scale, we can do that in an instant," said Warwick. "To us, the IPL 1000 isn't just about a $20,000 tournament; it's really the first major step in proving that web3 games can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the biggest esports titles in the world."
How to Qualify for the Main Event
There are 64 qualification spots available for the Main Event in December. Out of these, 48 can be earned by playing in IPL tournaments. The rest are reserved for different paths: 4 for the Last Call Tournament, 4 through the Last Chance event, 4 via Wildcard invites, and 4 through the Ranked Leaderboard Points (RLP) system.
The RLP system rewards consistent ranked gameplay. At the end of each month, top players on the ladder can earn a spot. But since most of the qualification slots are tournament-based, players aiming for the Main Event are encouraged to enter as many IPL 250, 500, and 1000 events as they can.
There are also monthly IPL tournaments leading up to December, giving competitors several chances to win points and prizes.
Illuvium Arena as the Competitive Platform
All IPL tournaments take place in Illuvium Arena, one of the studio's main titles. It's a web3 auto-battler that challenges players to build teams of Illuvials, which are creatures with unique abilities. The game is built to test planning, placement, and in-match strategy. Illuvium Arena supports free to play and doesn't require NFTs to get started.
The Arena features multiple modes including Gauntlet, Ascendant, and Survival. These modes provide various PvP and PvE challenges. For competitive play, Gauntlet and Ascendant are the core experiences.
Main Event in December
The IPL Main Event is set for 2 weekends in December. The first phase happens on December 6, with 64 players competing to make it into the final 16. The following weekend, on December 13, the top players return to compete in the Grand Finals. The final showdown happens on that same day, with one player set to be crowned the Illuvium Pro League champion.
Rewards for the Main Event include not only a $150,000 prize pool but also cosmetic items like Season 1 borders, emotes, Illuvitars, and battleboards. Prizes will be awarded to the top 32 players.
