After teaming up for a new card expansion set with Guild of Guardians earlier this year, the developers at Gods Unchained are back with another new set of cards for players to acquire: the Age of Ascent.

What's New in the Age of Ascent Expansion?

Age of Ascent is set to go live on sale on October 21 at 12 AM UTC with 24 new cards across multiple types of card packs.

With the 24 new cards, there is one of each rarity per domain, with no neutral cards. There are also 6 Mythic Variants, which are 1-of-1 Legendary cards, extremely rare versions with unique art and prestige. Specifically, they include 3 Shiny pack exclusives, 2 Variants found only in Booster, Premium, and Shiny Packs, as well as one Variant only awarded in a 7-win Sealed run.

The 3 Mythic Variants exclusive to Shiny packs include:

  • Charity, Shining Pilgrim
  • Thalor, Hexbinder
  • Ulvar, the Grovekeeper

The other 2 Variants, Neferu, Umbral Accountant, and Mayday, Jaded Admiral, can be found in Booster, Premium, and Shiny pack types. The only Mythic Variant that can be acquired through a Sealed 7-win run is the “Oddi and Glinn” Variant.

Other key additions included in this expansion set are Elite rewards, Divine Tithings discount, and a new keyword called Fellowship.

When it comes to Elite rewards, players can get 2 Diamond copies of the exclusive Promo card “Adventure Party Leader” for every $1000 spent on packs. This addition is said to be the team’s way of “honoring the players who invest deeply in the game and its world.” To determine eligibility for these Elite rewards, the team will be tracking wallets instead of accounts, with crypto purchases said to be converted “based on the highest exchange rate of the day of the purchase,” using CoinGecko as the source for price info.

For this set, using points earned from burning cards via Divine Tithings (DT) allows you to gain special discounts of up to 35% for Age of Ascent packs in particular. You need at least 12k DT points to be able to acquire a 5% discount, while 60k DT points is needed for 35%. Burnt cards provide varying amounts of DT points depending on rarity, Shine, and the supported set they belong to, with an official conversion table available to help you figure out which cards to sacrifice.

A new keyword called Fellowship is introduced with this set. This keyword triggers when you summon a creature from a different tribe, granting the summoned creature with Regen and stat buffs. One of the new cards that includes this keyword is Ulvar, the Grovekeeper, providing a summoned creature from a different tribe with Regen +1, +1 HP and +1 Damage.

Can You Earn Age of Ascent Cards?

Cards from the Age of Ascent expansion cannot be earned through the Battle Pass, Sealed, or Weekend Ranked gameplay. The only exception to this is the “Oddi and Glinn” Mythic Variant, which is awarded for achieving a 7- win streak in the Sealed mode.

This means that the only way to acquire all the new cards is by purchasing different types of card packs, with each pack featuring 6 cards. These include Booster, Premium, and Shiny packs, which all come in limited supply:

  • Booster Pack - $1.99 (7500 units)
  • Premium Pack - $19.99 (1000 units)
  • Shiny Pack - $199.99 (500 units)

Each pack contains 6 cards, with chances for rare ones such as Legendaries and Mythic Variants, with Premium packs guaranteeing a Legendary card, while Shiny packs have higher odds of getting exclusive cards of at least Shadow shine and Epic rarity. You can check detailed drop rates and Shine ratio in this official Google sheet. The official announcement states that the team reserves the right to mint " up to 100 Booster, 80 Premium, and 15 Shiny packs for marketing purposes.”

Age of Ascent packs will be on sale for 28 days or until sold out, followed by a balance phase lasting 4 weeks and extendable by 4 more weeks. It is important to note: this expansion will not be eligible in Sealed, Weekend Ranked, or Battle Pass formats.

Play and Earn in Gods Unchained

Gods Unchained is a free to play trading card game developed by Immutable and running of course on their own Immutable zkEVM blockchain. Players can play to earn on PC and mobile and enjoy strategic turn-based PvP card gameplay to earn rewards through multiple progression systems.

One of the ways to play and earn is through Battle Pass Season 7, which went live last week and includes 60 levels to progress through by earning XP. Players can earn XP by competing in matches and on average, obtaining about 350 XP per day is sufficient to reach the final level before the season concludes if playing from day 1, meaning you'll need to push above your weight if starting this the season now.

Participating in Battle Pass Seasons requires acquiring one of the 2 Battle Pass tracks:

  • Fancy Pass (300 $GODS): The standard track offering tokens, cards, and cosmetic rewards.
  • Whale Pass (750 $GODS): Includes all Fancy Pass rewards, plus Diamond and Gold card variants, extra packs, and premium cosmetics.

Battle Pass purchases must be made via the PC launcher, available on Windows and Mac via the official website or the Epic Games Store. Although Android and iOS mobile players can still earn XP toward their Battle Pass level during matches, they must use the desktop version to unlock the pass.

As players progress, it's possible to unlock $GODS tokens, Core and Promo packs, and cosmetics. Since both tracks use the same XP system, upgrading from Fancy to Whale unlocks all premium rewards for levels already attained.

Outside of the Battle Pass, additional earning opportunities include Daily Play & Earn and Weekend Ranked modes. Players who reach Rank 7 or above through ranked PvP matches can earn daily $GODS tokens based on the first 10 matches and quality of cards used in those games. Weekend Ranked events distribute packs and other rewards based on player performance in the first 18 ranked matches.

For those seeking higher stakes, Sealed Mode offers token-gated competitive gameplay. Players can also mint cards on-chain using the Forge by burning cards and spending $GODS tokens along with in-game Flux to create tradable assets.
