The GLHFers team has announced that their on-chain RPG Gigaverse is launching soon on consumer crypto chain Abstract, shortly after the blockchain goes live on mainnet later this month. Here’s everything we know about this upcoming web3 game so far and what you can do to get a WL (whitelist) spot for the NFT mint that will take place on the same network.
Gigaverse is a blockchain RPG in which players fight their way through an infinite universe of universes referred to as, well, the Gigaverse. There will be a final boss who controls this infinite reality, with the team saying that they’re doing “something new here” and that “you’re gonna like it”. More details on what this actually means will be revealed in the near future.
The game’s principles are said to be based on taking risks while having fun trying to get various rewards. The game will be easy to understand and play, while the world will have retro pixelated aesthetics to give players that nostalgic feel. New features are planned to be regularly added over time.
You can get a glimpse of this game by checking out the first trailer that’s embedded in a recent X thread. In the same announcement, the team shared more info on features that will be included at launch, revealing that there will initially be PvE combat, followed by PvP with wagering. Players will get to collect ERC-1155 items and use them to craft new goodies. A skill system will also be in place, which probably means that you will get to unlock all sorts of abilities as you progress through the game. You can also expect there to be character skins included to give you room to customize your hero’s appearance. It looks like these skins however will be distributed by holders of special character NFTs which act as playable characters but also skin factories through which they can claim skins every week.
While Abstract is the chosen chain, this 2D RPG is powered and built using Proof of Play’s on-chain infrastructure. Proof of Play is a blockchain gaming studio and technology company backed by a16z and known as the developers of Arbitrum-powered Pirate Nation, which is also an on-chain RPG. This means that next to the company’s flagship game, Gigaverse is actually the first third-party title built using this studio’s infrastructure. The goal for Proof of Play is to build a platform for large-scale omnichain apps, and since GLHFers want their game to run fast while being capable of handling a huge amount of players, they decided this infrastructure to be the ideal choice for their blockchain title.
When the game launches, the team will use modified smart contracts from Proof of Play’s core app logic library, with more of the company’s services, such as VRF and token mirroring, to be added as time goes on, according to the official X thread, where you can also find a link to an Alphabot raffle for a chance at winning a 1/1 Abstract-themed ship in Pirate Nation.
You can also expect the game to release with the Abstract Global Wallet integrated straight away. This will be used as the primary sign-in method to allow players to easily and securely jump in and start playing, while even earning Abstract XP along the way to reward your on-chain activity.
Based on what's been revealed so far, it doesn’t seem like Gigaverse will be a free to play title, or at least not at launch. This game is part of an ecosystem consisting of the GLHFers genesis collection. Holding an NFT from this collection will give you access to the game while unlocking various ecosystem perks along the way. It’s available on the Ethereum network via OpenSea and Blur, with the lower floor price of 0.4298 ETH found on the latter NFT marketplace at the time of writing.
Aside from the genesis collection, you might also gain access to the game by getting the upcoming NFT on Abstract, for which minting will take place soon. If you want to play this game, then you might want to try and get whitelisted for the NFT mint. Here’s how!
If you want to get a WL spot for the game’s NFT mint on Abstract, then you should sign up for the final WL raffle on Alphabot, linked in this tweet that’s part of a recent official X thread. Alternatively, you can also try getting whitelisted by posting content about the game or GLHFers on X. Those who are holders of the team’s genesis NFTs will be “covered” for this upcoming mint, so owners can expect to be automatically whitelisted, with more info on what else holders are receiving to be given soon.
Details on supply and benefits you get from minting this new NFT on Abstract is unknown for now but will be revealed closer to the chain’s launch.
