Genopets Launches Step Battles in Alpha

Move-to-earn title Genopets just got a new feature called Step Battles, now live in alpha.

What are Step Battles?

As the name may allude, Step Battles are essentially PvP competitions where players try and get the highest number of steps every day, so instead of just focusing on beating your personal best, you get to compete against everyone in the whole world. The Level of your Genopets and Augments also play a role in this new alpha feature, as these elements help boost your battle score, so you’ll probably want to equip your Genopet with Augments featuring Speed Boosts for that competitive edge.

In an effort to make sure everyone has a fair chance and proper, healthy rest, the mode actually adapts to time zones, so instead of there being a specific time that everyone has to adapt to, the feature adapts to your time, starting at 12 AM in your time zone. By making the competition start for every player at 12 AM in their time zone, the developers ensure everyone gets to compete for the same number of hours, and as a result of time zones, your time for the day might end earlier or later than it does for others depending on the time zone. By catering to time zones instead of having players cater to a time in one particular time zone, the team that way makes each battle a “global contest that respects the boundaries of time, guaranteeing that everyone gets their well-deserved shot at the crown.”

Players have the option to wager Energy in a Step Battle as a way to make each battle more exciting. As you play, you can also communicate with other competitors using the mode’s integrated chat feature. Don’t forget to bank your steps during the battle, as only when you bank them will they actually count. By having it this way, you can potentially make strategic moves to surprise other racers.

What types of Step Battles are there?

Step Battles aren’t just daily, 24-hour competitions. You can choose to simultaneously participate in longer battles that can last a week as well, adding variety to the new feature, with players given to freedom to adjust the length, according to the announcement.

Next to picking the duration, players can also choose whether they want to participate in public and private competitions, with public battles being the default way that anyone can jump into. Getting a private battle going requires wagering at least 1 Energy, after which you can invite others using a unique code.
