Shutdown, a sci-fi gaming universe and top-down shooter made in Unreal Engine, has unveiled the Mongrel NFT collection while doing a multi-phase mint on June 4th after working on it this whole year.
The collection consists of 1750 unique bio-engineered supersoldier characters that provide holders with exclusive benefits in this ecosystem. They were initially unveiled through an action-packed 3-minute video featuring cinematic and top-down gameplay footage of these NFTs. The community had a chance to secure a guaranteed mint by buying 10 different Mongrel Modules used to create a unique character. Based on the collection’s official OpenSea page, each NFT differs in 4 traits: arms, background, chest and helmet. Depending on the traits the NFT has, some characters are rarer than others, with only one NFT having the Mongrel exo gauntlet arm trait, for example. The video reveal states that each NFT has “unique enhancements and specializations” that affect playstyle, then showing the various abilities that Mongrels may have at their disposal in combat, which seems to be based on the class they belong to.
The minting of 1750 NFTs took place on June 4th on Polygon, and whichever phase users participated in, they had the chance to mint an NFT for free. 160 NFTs seemed to have been reserved for partners and the treasury. After the guaranteed phase for holders of the necessary Mongrel Modules was over, anyone had a chance to mint their NFT on a first come, first serve basis. You certainly had to be there on time to have a chance though, as it took only 10 minutes for this mint to be completely sold out!
Shortly after the mint, the NFTs were officially revealed on June 7th alongside 5 multiplier roles on Discord that give holders Alphabot raffle entries based on the amount of NFTs owned. It was also teased that an NFT staking rewards program will be introduced soon, giving holders “some exciting airdrops” by owning a couple of these collectibles.
This week, the developers plan on releasing more than just the NFT staking program though, as they’ve teased that a “new airdrop surprise” alongside “super cool in-game utility” is on its way. Aside from these bits of info, there’s currently not really that much info on all the exclusive benefits that come with holding this NFT, but it looks like the studio will soon gradually start revealing more of the utility they have in store for this collection.
