GameStop has joined forces with The Telos Foundation to deploy a Web3 game launcher, GameStop Playr.
This will allow Telos to bring mainstream gaming to its network while allowing GameStop to expand its NFT gaming strategy. Users will be able to enjoy blockchain games powered by Telos, a decentralized blockchain with proven scalability, security, and affordability.
"GameStop Playr is marketing/distributing Web3 games that are built using Telos' blockchain technology," said Peter Nguyen, Chief Marketing Officer at Telos. While GameStop Playr hasn't gone live yet, interested parties can sign up for a waitlist here:
The collaboration will also bridge the gap between the conventional gaming community and the Web3 audience.
AJ Dinger, Telos' Head of Business Development, believes that this partnership "will be a meaningful driver of new users into the Web3 space." He said: "By combining GameStop Playr with Web3 games utilizing Telos' high-performance blockchain infrastructure, we can break down many of the barriers currently deterring Web2 players from embracing Web3."
"Telos offers an ideal environment for GameStop's push into Web3 game distribution," said Justin Giudici, CEO of the Telos Foundation. "We believe the prerequisites for advancing this dynamic space require a platform that's fast, secure, sustainable, and scalable."
GameStop began its Web3 venture last year when it announced plans to build an NFT marketplace for gaming assets. The brick-and-mortar retailer also partnered with Immutable to launch a $100 million grant program for developers to build Web3 games on the Ethereum scaling protocol.
