Previously, Gala Games announced in a series of Discord posts that the firm was acquiring a mobile game studio with over 20 million users. After much anticipation, it turns out that the platform has acquired Ember Entertainment, a mobile game developer known for creating Gala's Web3 title, The Walking Dead Empires.
According to the company's CEO, Eric Schiermeyer (a.k.a. Benefactor), this acquisition "is a massive leap forward in terms of being able to test and explore various genres and tactics in the space." The addition of Ember Entertainment would see 15 of its mobile titles integrated with Gala's native blockchain, Gyri.
Currently, the company is focused on two games, Dragon Strike and Meow Match, which are available on Google Play Store and Apple App Store. All cats available in Meow Match will now become digital assets on Gyri. As for Dragon Strike players, they will receive at least one Scroll of Minting, with one additional scroll for every $100 spent, to turn their best Heroes into NFTs. The game will also have play-to-earn weekly tournaments to kick things off.
According to Gala, the main idea behind this development is digital ownership, giving players full control over their in-game items. The acquisition will also likely increase gas usage on Gyri, boosting the demand for $GALA.
"The liquidity of $GALA will be tested by the users consuming gas. We will share some of our analysis of the gas burning at scale next week. But given the scale of the mobile space and at the current price of the token with 53 games using $GALA for gas, anywhere from 6-35% of the total supply could be burned per year," wrote Benefactor.
