Forgotten Runiverse has kicked off its latest event, Crash the Runiverse II, just in time for the holidays. This time, players have the chance to earn from a pool of 3 million $PIXEL tokens, worth around $24,000. The event started on December 22 and will run until January 5.
The event follows the same stress-test concept used in January's first "Crash the Runiverse," which pushed the game's servers to their limits while handing out large-scale token rewards. But unlike that earlier event, which gave out Quanta, this one ties into the ongoing partnership between Forgotten Runiverse and Pixels, bringing $PIXEL back into the spotlight.
How to Play and Earn in Crash the Runiverse II
The second edition of Crash the Runiverse is open to anyone with a wallet. To take part, players need to log in during the event window and link their wallet. Once that's done, they can start earning $PIXEL by simply playing.
Several systems will affect how much $PIXEL each person receives. These include how long a player spends in the game, how much they've spent in total, and whether they hold assets from Forgotten Runiverse. The more they hold, and the higher the asset's floor price, the bigger the reward boost they can expect. All multipliers will be confirmed later, and $PIXEL tokens will be distributed after the event ends.
The full timeframe runs from December 22 at 1:00 p.m. ET to January 5 at 1:00 p.m. ET.
A Crossover Fueled by $PIXEL
This event is the latest in a string of partnerships between Forgotten Runiverse and the farming sim Pixels. The two Ronin-based games have been working together since April, when they announced a shared token system that lets players earn and use $PIXEL in both worlds.
The crossover kicked off in May with a major event that let players swap in-game currency Quanta for a share of 5 million $PIXEL. Special items like a Pixels Mount and cosmetic robes were introduced, and Quanta could be used to bid for these rewards. Later, the system was expanded through open-world additions, building upgrades, and land earnings that connected both economies more tightly.
Over the summer, the crossover continued with PvP-driven guild contests. The August event "Glory and Renown" added 2.5 million $PIXEL to the prize pool and used a system where guilds fought for ranking through risk-and-reward battles. It followed the earlier Sunflower Farm update, which introduced major gameplay changes and helped prepare the stage for PvP-focused events.
Through each of these crossover events, Pixels and Forgotten Runiverse have deepened their connection. Their goal is to test shared economies, strengthen token use, and gather data on how users interact with multi-game systems.
Forgotten Runiverse Expands With New Features
Next to the token event, a new update also rolled out for Forgotten Runiverse. The game now includes Dungeon Mercenary NPCs, giving solo players a new way to run dungeons by hiring companions. This makes it easier to go alone without losing out on rewards or efficiency.
The team also shared that 2 bugs tied to dungeons are still being worked on. Fixes may be added during the current patch if time allows, but there is no guarantee they will be live before the end of the event.
Along with that, a holiday sale is now live in the game. All items are 50% off until January 5, matching the full event period. This applies across the Runiverse, covering in-game assets and store content. No further details on specific items or bundles were provided.
The Return of Crash the Runiverse
This isn't the first time players have been asked to "crash" the servers. Back in January 2025, the original Crash the Runiverse acted as a massive stress test ahead of the game's Global Early Access launch. That first event offered 21 trillion Quanta to active users and had strict time windows for participation across global regions.
During that earlier event, players could engage in dungeon runs, craft at the forge, and take part in the game's Omen system, which allowed them to set dungeon difficulty and increase their chances at better loot.
Unlike the first Crash event, which was purely tied to Forgotten Runiverse's own token ecosystem, this second one leans fully into the Pixels crossover.
A Growing Shared Economy
This ongoing link between Pixels and Forgotten Runiverse reflects another key focus in web3 games: creating systems where rewards and tokens work across multiple worlds. By using $PIXEL in both titles, and letting actions in one game obtain rewards in another, the teams are trying to blur the lines between standalone projects.
Pixels founder Luke Barwikowski said back in April that the move is part of a larger vision to support sustainable token use across games. Shane Bierwith, COO at Bisonic, which develops Forgotten Runiverse, added that weaving $PIXEL into Runiverse's systems also helps test their upcoming native token, XP.
Each crossover event has added more tools to that shared system. Back in May, players could claim $PIXEL using Quanta, and new features like Delves and Building Infusions expanded how players earned and used resources. Later updates added guild features, PvP systems, and changes to early gameplay, all helping build toward a deeper ecosystem.
With the current event now live, the next step in that crossover is here. Anyone can join Crash the Runiverse II until January 5. Players who take part and meet the wallet and gameplay requirements will qualify for a share of the 3 million $PIXEL tokens, with rewards to be given out after the event ends.
