Blockchain mobile game FIFA Rivals has kicked off its first official football club partnership, teaming up with German Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund (BVB). The move marks a major step for the web3 sports game, which launched earlier this summer on iOS and Android.

As part of this new multi-year deal, FIFA Rivals players can now collect exclusive Borussia Dortmund content in the game, including digital cards of top players, official team kits, and unique emblems. The event runs through August 24, offering a daily window for fans to grab free items and build a squad packed with BVB stars.

What the Borussia Dortmund Partnership Brings to FIFA Rivals

The BVB collab adds a wide mix of digital items and experiences to FIFA Rivals. Players can now unlock in-game player cards of real-life BVB stars like Serhou Guirassy, Karim Adeyemi, Nico Schlotterbeck, and Gregor Kobel. These cards reflect the current 2025/26 squad and can be collected in different rarity levels.

Alongside players, the update also includes official Dortmund kits and team emblems. These assets not only carry the club's famous black and yellow design, but some versions also offer in-game stat boosts. According to the team, those who log in daily during the event week will receive free Borussia Dortmund card packs, while premium items are available for purchase in the store.

Exclusive Events and Giveaways for Fans

To celebrate the launch, FIFA Rivals is running a special giveaway event called Black & Yellow Week. From August 18 to August 24, users who log into the game each day can claim a free random BVB player card from the in-game store.

Each card varies in rarity, from Common all the way up to Legendary. Among the top-tier picks is Serhou Guirassy, labeled by in-game commentator Jeff Winton as a "clinical powerhouse forward" who can "turn half-chances into highlights." Other standout players include Jobe Bellingham, praised for his box-to-box energy, and Julian Brandt, known for his "passes so good they should be framed."

There's also a chance to win 2 match tickets for the upcoming Borussia Dortmund vs Union Berlin game on August 31. The contest is open to fans in Germany only, with winners being announced on Thursday. To enter, fans must like and retweet the official FIFA Rivals post, follow the game's X account, and tag who they would bring along.

What Mythical Games Had to Say

Nate Nesbitt, Head of Communications at Mythical Games, said that partnering with BVB is "a big moment—not just for FIFA Rivals, but for the broader vision we have at Mythical."

He added that Dortmund brings "an incredible fanbase, deep history, and unmatched energy," and said the deal will introduce more branded events, community activations, and giveaways over time. Nesbitt explained, "You'll start to see custom in-game events, major giveaways, branded content, and community activations that put the BVB experience front and center for our players and BVB fans."

Borussia Dortmund Managing Director Carsten Cramer also praised the partnership. In a public statement, he said the partnership "creates a unique bridge between the digital and real worlds, enabling us to connect with our fans around the world in innovative ways."

A Growing Game with Over a Million Downloads

Launched globally in June 2025, FIFA Rivals has already surpassed 1 million downloads across mobile platforms. The game offers a fast-paced football experience with 1v1 matches, using player cards and stat-based systems that balance skill with team management.

All in-game items in FIFA Rivals are created as NFTs on the Mythos Chain, a blockchain network built using Polkadot's tech. At present, users can trade their items through a web-based platform, but Mythical Games is working to bring NFT trading directly into the mobile app. This will allow users to buy, sell, and exchange items without leaving the game.

Nesbitt noted the strong response from the community, especially when it comes to digital ownership. "We're seeing real momentum build across the competitive side of the game," he said. "What's particularly encouraging is how well the community is starting to embrace the digital ownership model, which has really shifted their gaming experience."

Looking Ahead for FIFA Rivals

The Borussia Dortmund partnership is just the start for FIFA Rivals. This club collab sets the stage for more real-world football integrations in the future, as Mythical Games looks to grow its user base and add more features tied to live football events.

According to the team, future updates will bring new player cards, branded stadiums, and enhanced PvP tournaments. The upcoming addition of a native marketplace will allow players to fully manage their teams and assets within the app, keeping everything in one place.

For now, fans can enjoy Black & Yellow Week by logging in daily, testing out new squad combos, and collecting rare BVB players while they're available. The event ends on August 24, giving players a short window to grab some of the game's most powerful cards.

FIFA Rivals is free to download and play on both iOS and Android. The BVB update is live now, and more partnerships may be on the way as the 2025/26 football season unfolds.
