Pixion Games has announced the return of its Dev Diaries for Fableborne, through which they aim to share new development updates to its blockchain gaming community every two weeks in order to give everyone a better idea of what the team has achieved so far, what they’re currently working on, as well as what they plan on building next for their action RPG/strategy hybrid.
For the first entry, they’ve summed up all the features revealed for Season 4 so far while teasing new web3-specific ones currently in the works. There’s even a hint for a feature that is in the works for Season 5 as well.
To date, the web3 gaming studio has revealed that the following new features are coming to Season 4 of Fableborne:
Ability Tomes are new items that allow you to change the abilities of your heroes to unlock new strategic depth to your favorite characters. By being given the option to swap predefined skills, this enables new tactics and new combos for you to take advantage of in your raids, and some of the first Ability Tomes you can expect to see added to the mobile game include the Arcane Ball, Rumble, Focus Area, and Self-heal, as revealed in last month’s X announcement thread.
At that time, it was also teased that 3 more Ability Tomes are in the works: Hammer of Justice, Crossbow Turret, and Curse. The names are work in progress and how they exactly work has not been mentioned, though the names do give a good idea of what to expect. It’s not clear if these will be included in the new season alongside the 4 Ability Tomes, but either way, the new game mechanic seems like a good new addition that improves the raiding experience and makes gameplay more varied and interesting than before. NFT holders and select community members were previously able to test out an early glimpse of this new feature in the Sorcery Unfolds preview playtest.
When it comes to new characters, the ones that have been announced so far include the Sorceress and the Transformer. The Sorceress is a new elite unit that was included in the previously mentioned preview playtest and is able to help improve your defenses through the use of dark magic powers. Near the end of May, the developers unveiled the Transformer, which is a vanguard unit that can inflict mid-range attacks and instantly teleport away when the hero is too close. He is also capable of healing and transforming to unlock new abilities, so it seems like he will be quite a versatile and strong unit capable of significantly enhancing your kingdom's defenses.
These are all of the features revealed before the dev diary. In this new dev log entry, the team has teased 2 new, “never-before-seen" web3 mechanics designed to connect the free to play title to the $POWER ecosystem: POWER Chests and POWER Bounties.
POWER Chests seem to be lootboxes through which players will have a chance to win exclusive prizes, such as the Legendary Kingdom NFT that the team bought on OpenSea for 7140 RON. POWER Bounties on the other hand represent a “living challenge layer” that is said to evolve with each raid to bring players “a mix of surprise, skill, and progression.” It seems that by taking on these raid challenges, you will be filling up the War Rune, which can be cracked open to gain various rewards.
The launch date for Season 4 has not been revealed at the time of writing.
For Season 5, Pixion Games have teased that they would like to introduce a new Hero to Fableborne. The WIP name for this Hero is Flame Fist, and while most info is “under wraps for now,” the dev entry mentions that she is an agile melee fighter who uses martial arts “to unleash brutal combos.” That’s all we know for the future season so far.
At some point later on, there are also plans to improve the game loop around kingdom defense by enabling players to use advanced strategies. This means you will be able to have a greater sense of control over your defenses, gaining more advanced options such as the ability to reposition rooms in order to add more depth and possibilities in creating the ultimate fortress.
Another addition that seems to be coming closer to the game’s soft launch is the option to customize or equip your character multiple times, with design work for that said to be already ongoing.
Earlier this year, it was announced that the Fableborne developer raised $12.4m in total for the $POWER token launch and more.
