Browser-based free-to-play Solana arena FPS ev.io has kicked off a $BONK event at the end of last month with the launch of the first token drop, giving players the opportunity to accrue millions of the meme token by owning the required character skin.
Players have a chance of finding an orb containing 8 million $BONK tokens while playing the game’s action-packed deathmatch mode. In order to collect this though, you need to have the Bonk character skin. If you do, you can collect the orb and the tokens will seamlessly drop into your wallet.
The first drop happened on May 31st, with the tokens initially dropping less than expected, after which it went to the other extreme following the restart of servers that changed the drop rate, leading to around 16 million BONK tokens getting dropped per minute, according to developer Forge’s messages on the game’s official Discord server.
The next drop took place shortly after, while the last drop was on June 2nd, from which tokens are still available to grab at the time of writing.
8 million BONK tokens are worth around $3 at the time of writing, but getting them requires owning a Bonk NFT character skin, which can be found under the ev.io Special Edition collection on the Magic Eden marketplace for varying prices, the cheapest one as of writing being 2.94 $SOL.
Next to the orbs, the developers tweeted earlier in May that each kill is also rewarded with the $BONK token when the skin is equipped, similar to how players using other skin NFTs earn an ‘e’ currency that can be converted to $SOL.
