The developers of Loot Legends have published official documentation on the play and earn dungeon crawling roguelite, giving us just about everything we need to know about its gameplay and economy before this first HYCHAIN-powered title, currently in closed beta, publicly launches on mobile devices and web browsers. Let’s dive in and cover some of the most important bits to get a good overview of what to expect.
Loot Legends is a roguelite dungeon crawler accessed through HYPLAY, a user-friendly account solution featuring social sign-in options. Coming to web browsers, Android (Play Store) and iOS (App Store) devices, players will enjoy battling their way through more than 200 PvE dungeon levels in isometric fantasy gameplay. Each dungeon is said to be procedurally-generated, making each attempt unique with different loot, enemies and features. Expect boss battles at the end of every dungeon, with every 20th dungeon featuring an environment boss after which the next 20 dungeons take place in a new environment.
You can bring up to 2 unique pet companions into these levels to give you distinct buffs while supporting you with passive and active abilities. Pets can also be sent on Pet Adventures, which are missions that your companions can complete to give you more rewards and even new pets, as well as pet skill points to enhance their skills. Feed them earnable and purchasable biscuits to level them up for better stats, and use earnable pet fragments to promote them, unlocking useful new abilities.
Among the loot that can be earned from dungeons includes more than 1500 unique weapons and armor. You can upgrade this equipment over at the Blacksmith by making enhancements, fusions and refinements. Enhancement is done by paying gold to level up your gear, while fusion lets you combine 2 items of the same type to get a fused item featuring bonus stat buffs. Only items that support fusion can be used for this process. Refining lets you lock certain stat improvements once per item permanently, allowing you to focus on improving an item’s attack stat or any other stat type.
Next to dungeon crawling gameplay, you will also be able to set up your own Home Base and Airship. The Home Base will generate useful resources and provide you with various benefits as you continue to upgrade it and unlock more buffs. The Airship will be used to invade Home Bases made by other players but also for engaging in Airship battles, with your pets serving as the crew. These activities improve pet abilities, give you loot, level up your Airship and potentially more.
Eventually, you can set up your own guild or join an existing one, allowing you to chat and work together with other players on completing unique guild tasks while teaming up against challenging bosses for valuable rewards.
Alongside all these PvE elements, there will also be PvP tournaments to compete in to earn various in-game currencies by climbing to the top of weekly rankings.
Loot Legends will use 5 in-game currencies to make its economy work for both Web2 and Web3 players. These currencies include Gold, Honor Medals, Crystals, Contribution Coins and Diamonds.
Gold is your basic in-game currency earned from beating dungeons, completing daily tasks, quests and more. With enough Gold, you can buy items and consumables while upgrading equipment and fusing items. Honor Medals are awarded in PvP tournaments and certain events, and can be used to buy unique items at the Arena Shop. Crystals are gained from daily tasks and slowly through your Home Base. They’re spent not only on unique goodies at the Homeland Shop, but also on improving your Home Base and more. Contribution Coins is a guild-focused currency, and as such is gained from guild events and tasks while being used to upgrade guilds and buy items in the Guild Shop.
The rarest currency of them all is Diamonds, which can be earned from dungeons and daily tasks but can also be bought via in-app purchases as well as using HYCHAIN’s $TOPIA token on the game’s official website. By choosing to buy with the core ecosystem token instead of directly through the game, you will get a 30% discount on your Diamonds purchase, giving the token a new sink and use case while allowing players willing to dip into Web3 to buy Diamonds at a cheaper price if they want to have more of the currency faster. With this valuable currency, you can buy gold, revive mid-dungeon, open extremely rare diamond-locked chests, unlock upgrades and even more.
Diamonds also bridge the gap between Web2 and Web3, as they can be used to convert in-game items into digital collectibles or NFTs, transferring the assets from the in-game inventory over to the player’s profile on the web-based marketplace: The Outpost.
The Outpost enables players to trade their minted items using $TOPIA or USDC, giving players the opportunity to earn from the assets gained through gameplay while buying rare goodies from each other. This means that your purchases and transferred items aren’t stuck on the marketplace, but can of course be used in-game, so if you ever want to convert the items you own back to the game, then you will easily be able to do so without paying for any fees.
When it comes to in-app purchases, players will be able to buy cosmetics, diamonds and unique bundles, with sales cycling over time so that there’s constantly something different to buy. Prices will be shown in the player’s local currency.
As previously mentioned, $TOPIA’s use cases include trading on The Outpost and a 30% discount on Diamonds purchases, but this discount isn’t just for Diamonds – it's for every item that can be bought as an in-app purchase. So, if you’d like to avoid the traditional purchasing method common in Web2 games, you can then instead buy those same cosmetics, bundles and Diamonds through the official website using $TOPIA, and receive a 30% discount for doing so. Whether this discount proves tempting enough for Web2 gamers to learn more about crypto gaming through a more user-friendly way remains to be seen.
In the meantime, make sure to pre-register for Loot Legends ahead of its potential free to play summer launch to receive an exclusive in-game lootbox.
