The survival-based blockchain MMO EVE Frontier is now open to everyone through a limited-time free trial. Starting from September 5 and running until September 15 at 14:00 UTC, players can explore the game without needing to buy Founder Access. This 10-day window lets newcomers and returning players experience the current cycle, take part in missions, and build their place in a shifting galaxy.
During this trial, users will not have access to any premium perks or customization options available to Founder Access holders. But they will get to earn Grace, a key in-game currency. If they choose to upgrade to Founder Access before the end of Cycle 2, they can convert that Grace into EVE Points, which serve as a permanent record of their efforts in the game.
A Glimpse Into the Frontier
EVE Frontier is set in a broken galaxy where players must survive, gather resources, and protect their holdings from AI drones and other player-controlled Riders. Built by CCP Games, this 3rd-person space MMO mixes sandbox-style building with survival mechanics. Players begin with limited resources and must carve out their own space by scavenging, building, and battling.
The game puts strong focus on choices. Whether someone joins a tribe or fights alone, every decision affects their fate. That includes building structures, claiming territory, or engaging in PvP combat. Everything happens in a shared, changing galaxy where each player shapes their part of the world.
What Trial Players Can Expect
When logging into the trial, you will start in a quiet solar system. A short tutorial will introduce how to fly, mine, and set up a base. The first task is to gather enough material to craft a basic ship called the Reflex. This ship opens access to the broader galaxy.
You'll aboard a starter vessel known as the Wend. Using a mix of wreck looting and resource refining, you can collect fuel and building parts to create the tools needed for expansion. Portable refineries allow the conversion of raw ore into fuel and crafting materials, which are key for survival and progression.
Key Systems and Gameplay
The entire experience revolves around understanding the basics of movement, fuel usage, and crafting. Fuel is needed for almost every major action, from mining to warping. Without it, a player risks being stranded.
Bases play a central role in the game. After collecting enough materials, players can warp to nearby moons, planets, or asteroids to begin their build. A portable printer allows them to manufacture weapons, modules, and eventually the Reflex. Once this ship is completed, the player can leave the starting system and enter the wider Frontier.
There are clear steps that guide players from simple wreck-looting to more complex tasks like building entire outposts. Players gather materials such as carbonaceous ore, metal-rich ore, and common ore. These can be refined and used to build advanced structures or tools.
Combat plays a role as well. Players must arm themselves to battle feral drones, which drop needed items like fossilized exotronics. These materials are needed to build higher-level components like the nomad program frame, which is required to complete the Reflex.
Base Expansion and Ship Fitting
Once your first ship is ready, you are free to dismantle your initial base and jump into other systems. The game provides a Tactical and System Camera to plan routes and scan for materials, while a fitting system allows you to customize ships with modules and weapons. Every ship has limits on what it can carry, so planning becomes key.
The final step is building up fuel supplies, packing up the most useful deployables, and jumping into the unknown. Exploration remains open-ended, with each system offering new places to build, mine, or fight.
Earning Grace and Legacy
The free trial gives access to core game features but restricts long-term rewards. Grace, which is earned through missions from the player's hub, forms the base currency of the Frontier economy. During the trial, you can still collect this currency, but you'll need to upgrade to Founder Access before the end of Cycle 2 if you want to keep it and turn it into lasting EVE Points.
This means anyone testing the game during the free trial can still build up valuable resources. But those resources won't carry forward unless the trial is converted into a full Founder account by the deadline.
How to Join the Trial
To enter the trial, players must sign up through the EVE Frontier website and install the game launcher. Once inside, users can follow the First Hour Introductory Tutorial (see above), which walks them through essential steps. The tutorial includes wreck salvaging, base construction, ship fitting, and combat basics.
To stay updated, users are encouraged to join the official Discord server, where CCP shares updates, and players form tribes or seek help.
Terms of the Trial
The free trial does not offer any of the exclusive content or perks tied to Founder Access. Grace earned during the trial will not carry over unless players purchase Founder Access before Cycle 2 ends.
Looking Ahead
The trial period ends on September 15 at 14:00 UTC. Until then, any player can explore the game freely. Those who want to continue beyond the trial must upgrade before that date to keep any progress tied to in-game Grace.
EVE Frontier remains in active development, with regular changes and feature updates planned for each cycle. Trial players have full access to the core game loop and survival mechanics, including all gameplay related to mining, building, and combat systems.
The opening of trial access gives a rare look into a world that normally requires paid entry. Whether someone is new to the game or returning after a break, the 10-day access window offers a chance to understand the survival-focused systems that define EVE Frontier's growing world.
