CCP has launched a free trial for EVE Frontier, its blockchain survival MMO, giving curious gamers a full 10 days of unrestricted access. The trial starts from now until July 7 and is available to players on both PC and Mac. It offers a rare chance to test the game's ruthless survival mechanics in deep space, gather resources, build structures, and rise through the leaderboards by earning Grace points.

Players can sign up at evefrontier.com and download the client directly to get started. For newcomers, the team has also released a tutorial video explaining how to navigate the universe and survive its dangers.

Free Trial Details and Gameplay Basics

From now until July 7, players can experience all core gameplay features for free. That includes base building, resource harvesting, and the formation of Tribes, which act like clans. Survival is tough and demands quick thinking. Players need to power their tools and ships by mining and refining fuel, then use those tools to construct defenses, mine faster, or explore new sectors.

You'll also be able to earn Grace, the game's temporary currency. Grace can be swapped into permanent Eve Points, which track each player's legacy and progress. Points are tied to seasonal Cycles, a feature introduced with the latest update. These Cycles wipe short-term progress but preserve Eve Points and leave a lasting impact on the universe.

CCP has said that while short-term resets are part of the game's rhythm, "your impact endures as you build toward long-term rewards."

"A Perfect Time to Open the Game"

The free trial follows the launch of EVE Frontier's Founder Access: New Era back in June. This event officially removed the non-disclosure agreement (NDA) that had previously prevented early players from talking about the game. With this shift, CCP hopes to open the floodgates to a broader audience.

"We have been on the game development journey under NDA with the Founders Access community for some time now," said CCP Community Developer Ben Sisson. "As we move into the New Era and begin the cycles program, it is a perfect time to open the game so that more new players can experience life in the Frontier."

Sisson said the team opted for a 10-day trial window because it gives players enough time to "find their groove" in a game where early survival can be punishing. The move reflects confidence in the game's current state after a long period of feedback and iteration.

A Game Shaped by Player Feedback

EVE Frontier first opened in December via closed alpha access, with Founder Access passes ranging from $30 to $90. These early users provided critical feedback on everything from the resource economy to structure crafting and combat. Sisson said the feedback was valuable, even when problems arise.

"We experienced some challenges early on with the way the universe was distributing resources that required some updates on our end," he explained. "But despite this, our players were constantly finding new and creative ways to work around those issues and progress deeper into the universe than we were expecting, given the circumstances."

CCP also brought in a former central bank economist to refine the in-game economy, which supports two types of currency: Eve, a blockchain-based token tradable outside the game, and LUX, an in-game-only token. This layered system is designed to balance fair gameplay with onchain ownership.

What Is EVE Frontier?

EVE Frontier is a survival-focused spinoff of EVE Online, CCP's 20-year-old space MMO known for massive battles and intricate player economies. But unlike the original, EVE Frontier trades in politics and empire-building for gritty survival gameplay.

Players take on the role of Riders: cloned individuals with no past or memories. Waking up alone in hostile sectors, they must gather materials, construct starbases, and craft everything they need in real time. There are no preset skill trees. Instead, progress depends entirely on what you build and how you survive. Every ship, gate, and structure is handcrafted with materials you mine.

Combat is tactical. There's no target locking or safety zones. Players fight using line-of-sight systems and physics, meaning positioning and environment matter. Friendly fire is always on, which adds to the tension in group battles and ambushes.

The world is vast; over 100,000 fragmented systems make up the playable universe. Players can explore, extract, and colonize these sectors, leaving permanent marks on the landscape.

Blockchain as a Feature, Not a Buzzword

With that, CCP calls EVE Frontier a "sandbox laboratory" where they test new systems that would be too complex for the legacy EVE Online platform. One of the big differences is the integration of blockchain. All assets, actions, and structure changes are recorded on Ethereum, now via testnet.

This allows players to own their creations in a provable, onchain way. The modding system is also tied to the blockchain, allowing players to modify structures and systems in real time within the same persistent server.

Sisson said players have responded well to this setup. "Overall, the response across the board to EVE Frontier leveraging blockchain in the way that we have, especially as it relates to modding and third-party development, has been overwhelmingly positive," he noted.

"It is becoming clearer to gamers that this is the technology that allows us to unlock our vision for the game that they want."

A Game for New and Old Players Alike

While EVE Frontier targets a different player base than EVE Online, the team has seen returning interest from long-time EVE fans.

"EVE Frontier targets a different player type from the die-hard EVE Online players," said Sisson. "We have seen great interest from EVE Online players who have taken a break for one reason or another. Some love the new gameplay, some have been genuinely interested in making the economy a bigger part of the game, and some wanted the chance for a fresh start."

With the NDA now lifted and a new Cycle underway, EVE Frontier is opening its world to all players ready to test their survival skills.
