Dragon Strike: Puzzle RPG, a traditional mobile game, is set to receive various Web3 updates as a result of developer Ember Entertainment getting acquired by Gala Games earlier this year, bringing blockchain integration to the Match-3 RPG.
The Web3 launch was initially teased in a post for May Mayhem earlier this month, with the mobile title getting updated on May 22nd to bring true player ownership by making it possible for players to mint their max level Heroes into tradable NFTs. In order to mint a Hero, aside from the level requirement, you need to connect a Gala Games account, as well as use a new special item called the Scroll of Minting. This new item will be distributed to all players “based on their total lifetime purchases in the game,” which means that you get a scroll for every $100 you’ve spent in the game. By connecting a Gala Games account however, you get one for free. To get more, you’ll have to buy them in the in-game shop.
Those who decide to mint will have no advantage over other players who play with non-NFT Heroes, keeping it a level playing ground for everyone. What the article does mention however is that the NFTs will have new utility that doesn’t give a competitive advantage but rather gives you new ways to play the game by adding in “additional mechanics” to usual events.
Minting your max level Hero is the first of the many Web3 updates that the developers have in store. The announcement post reveals that the Summoning Portal will get a new option that lets you summon “NFT Ready Heroes” using Gems. While these will cost more than the Legendary ones, you won’t need to have a Scroll of Minting to turn these “NFT Ready” characters into NFTs.
