The Drunk Robots team has announced significant changes to $METAL tokenomics that will go in effect when the new season starts on February 4th.
When the new season begins, the team will stop distributing $METAL in order to lower token inflation and put more focus on developing and releasing their new upcoming Web3 shooter, BADMAD ROBOTS.
The change, according to the announcement, is said to benefit everyone involved with the game, from “our earliest adopters and players to the newcomers.” They claim that moving away from the play-to-earn model is important so as to form a “more stable” model where the reward pool is created based on the game’s revenue that gets redistributed to the best players.
“Our goal is to build a game which meets all the high standards of competitive gameplay and is easily accessible and attractive to the established community of players. At the same time, the world of gaming is evolving, and we aim to be part of that change. Web3 empowers us to challenge the current norm where all the proceeds of playing and transacting in games go only to gaming companies. Given the substantial time and value players contribute to these platforms, it is only fair that they also receive fair compensation.”
Nevertheless, the token remains a crucial aspect of the game’s economy, and the team aims to soon show this once they finish working on updating the whitepaper with a roadmap and everything you need to know.
The official post reveals that as a result of this change, 43% of the token’s supply, that is, 1.2 billion $METAL, is now locked in the treasury, while the number of unlocked tokens continues to remain the same. A percentage of the redistributed tokens will be used for airdrops and various marketing activities, while another portion has been allocated to liquidity pools, with the team clarifying that their allocation remains the same as before.
Holders of NFTs from the Drunk Robots collection will be airdropped new NFTs in the future, so long as you were a holder before the snapshot took place on January 23rd. If you’re interested in getting an NFT from this collection, the team suggests in the official announcement that any interested buyers should “please refrain from purchasing the current NFT collection and wait for the announcements.”
