Doctor Who Marketplace Live on Ethereum Sidechain

Doctor Who Marketplace Live on Ethereum Sidechain

Reality Gaming Group has launched their private Ethereum sidechain dedicated to serving the trading card game Doctor Who: Worlds Apart and its marketplace. They introduced a sidechain in order to circumvent the gas fee problems on the Ethereum mainnet. However, players are allowed to transfer and mint their Doctor Who: Worlds Apart NFTs onto the Ethereum mainnet, against a hefty fee of course.

The Doctor Who marketplace allows gamers to trade their cards without having to worry about gas fees, because it's running on a private sidechain of the Ethereum blockchain. This separate blockchain stores all transactions and NFTs, giving players control over their assets. However, the blockchain runs through a number of appointed nodes, and is therefore not as decentralized as the normal Ethereum blockchain.

Doctor Who: Worlds Apart is an upcoming trading card game that taps into the rich history of the BBC television series. The game, like the TV series, has elements of time travel and combines characters and events from different timelines in the series. Having the Doctor Who card game run on an Ethereum sidechain, could make the user experience from a player point-of-view a lot better.

Planets as focus points for deck-building

The complete trading card game of Doctor Who: Worlds Apart is far from finished. The developers introduced Planets as focal points for deck building. Players will need to choose a home planet. Planets will limit the ability to use certain cards, giving players more focus when creating their decks.

These Planets come with new gameplay abilities as well. For example, each player controls their own planet, but only the last one is displayed. In addition players can stack their Planets, increasing the powers of certain cards. In addition players can resummon Planets that they have visited during the game.

Reality Gaming Group and the BBC will release Doctor Who: Worlds Apart as a free-to-play game. They are planning to release the game this year. Players can buy cards based on the entire Doctor Who universe. They can then use their collection to build a deck and battle against other players in one-versus-one battles. Cards come with different frames, and these frames determine the rarity.

Today they introduced the Machines of War Pack, which costs $39,99 for 10 cards. Five of these cards have an Imperial Dalek frame, and the other five have Cyber King frames. They only sell these so-called 'alien frames' during the pre-sale and those sales will end once the game is live. Some packs are already no longer available.

What is Doctor Who: Worlds Apart?

Doctor Who: Worlds Apart is a trading card game made by the British game studio Reality Gaming Group and licensed by BBC Studios. The card game is based on the BBC television series, and features unique artwork from the early and modern days of Doctor Who.

The Doctor in the TV series turns out to be extraterrestrial, but appears to be human. He travels through time and space using the Tardis, a time travel machine that looks like a blue Police Box, and has all kinds of adventures. The first episode aired in 1963, hence the price point for the Tardis Pack and the number of founder’s tokens.

Reality Gaming Group and the BBC will release Doctor Who: Worlds Apart as a free-to-play game. Players can buy cards based on the entire Doctor Who universe. They can then use their collection to build a deck and battle against other players in one-versus-one battles.
