After more than a year of test phases, web3 gaming ecosystem DeFi Land has announced the official launch of Alpaca Dash, now live with a seasonal prize pool containing $10k+ worth of rewards.
What Is Alpaca Dash?
Alpaca Dash is a blockchain idle racing game in which players pick their alpaca and enter real-time 3D races to earn prizes from reward pools funded by entry fees. Each alpaca has a varied set of skills, and you can choose which ones you’d like to activate mid-race to potentially snatch victory at the last moment.
Racing in this web3 idle game requires not just paying entry fees for each race, but you also need to own an Almighty Alpaca NFT. Each NFT has unlockable skills and 5 main stats: Speed, Acceleration, Handling, Endurance, and Intelligence. Every on-chain alpaca also has dozens of hidden genes, which act as modifiers that can activate depending on environmental conditions during the race, such as the type of track you’re racing in, the obstacle layouts, as well as the kind of weather the race is taking place in. While the 5 core stats can help you find the right alpaca, the hidden genes add a layer of unpredictability to gameplay, because an alpaca with a high Speed stat might struggle to keep up with a specific type of track, while another with average stats could excel under certain weather, leaving it to players to figure out the strengths and weaknesses of their assets. In-depth details on these mechanics can be found in the developer’s official post from last year, one that is very much still relevant for this official launch.
DeFi Land has spent almost 2 years working with the web3 gaming community through a number of playtests which wiped player progress. Following the minting of the Almighty Alpacas NFT collection on Magic Eden back in 2023, the team launched closed alpha testing later that year, while last year was highlighted by Pre-Season public testing on Solana.
Now, the browser-based game is fully up and running with its first official Alpaca Season for anyone to join and play to earn in across PC, Android, and iOS. Let’s check out what’s new in this release and see how you can get started with participating in the first proper season.
What’s New in Alpaca Dash’s Official Launch?
The official launch brings with it the Alpaca Season and a number of welcome upgrades introduced thanks to community feedback garnered from months of public testing.
The Alpaca Season features a reward pool of $10k+ worth of tokens and prizes that you can potentially earn a share by simply playing the game. Details on how the season and prize pool exactly work however have not been revealed at the time of writing, nor was any specific timeframe given either. The developers advise players to start racing as soon as possible, to use as many alpaca NFTs as viable, “and most importantly, try not to game the system,” as that will get you disqualified from seasonal prizes.
In terms of launch upgrades, this release brings with it re-engineered physics, Frostbite Fields, official documentation, the 15-point skill draft, livestreamed weekly tournaments, and Alpaca Dash Lite.
The team has worked on overhauling the physics system by narrowing collision boxes, rebuilding the speed curve, and writing a new momentum algorithm that “rewards perfect skill selection.” This means that choosing the right alpaca to race with is not enough, as you also need to select the right skills to maximize your chances of clinching the top spot, adding a layer of strategic gameplay to the idle racing experience.

Frostbite Fields is the game’s first winter arena. This track has weather shifting every lap and also comes with ice patches that drain Speed while allowing hidden cold-weather genes to come to life and potentially help you win the race.
If you want to know every single detail about each of the game’s elements, such as alpaca stats, environment types, weather types, skills, and more, then the newly published official documentation is your go-to hub for learning everything you need to know to successfully play and earn in this blockchain-powered title.
The 15-point skill draft replaces the previous randomized system by giving you the ability to spend points on various abilities before the start of each race. There are 5 tiers of skills to choose from, with the cost varying based on the tier in question, so if the skill you want is in tier 5, it will cost 5 points, while an ability in tier 3 will cost 3 points.
If you want to win more $DFL prizes, then you can look forward to participating in weekly tournaments. Registrations open every Monday and there is no entry fee to pay, with the actual racing taking place each Saturday in an Olympic ladder. Winners will receive $DFL tokens, exclusive skins, and triumph banners, with each competition set to be potentially livestreamed to give viewers “slo-mo replays, sideline interviews, and giveaway prizes.”
To make the game more accessible to play when you’re on a bus or train, the team has also launched Alpaca Dash Lite, a mobile-focused release that removes 3D rendering and leaves only the important data you need to play while on the go. This means you can register for races, draft skills, and claim rewards without needing to download the game.
How to Play to Earn in Alpaca Dash
To play to earn in Alpaca Dash, you need to buy an Almighty Alpaca NFT to participate in races while owning enough $DFL tokens to pay for entry fees. You can find one on the Solana network through Magic Eden and Tensor. At the time of writing, the floor price is slightly cheaper on the former, where you can get one for 0.117 $SOL.
Once you own the required NFT, head on over to the browser game and connect your wallet holding the asset. Some of the supported wallets include Phantom, Backpack, Ledger, and more.
If you’re playing on desktop, the official Medium post states to access the game through this page: https://play.almightyalpacas.com/
For mobile users, you can head here: https://almightyalpacas.com/
From there, you will want to top up the in-game wallet with $DFL, the core governance token of the DeFi Land ecosystem. The amount of tokens needed can really vary from one race to the next, with one requiring 1000 $DFL (currently ~$0.165), while another could ask for 5000 $DFL tokens (~$0.83). Upon entering the lobby, you are given 15 points to spend on skills you’d like to be used during the race. Each race can have up to 10 participants, with token rewards awarded to the top 3 racers.
That is essentially the core gameplay and earning loop in Alpaca Dash. If you liked playing idle racing games such as Pegaxy and Zed Run (now live as Base-powered Zed Champions), then you may very well enjoy playing DeFi Land’s latest title on the Solana network, and possibly on other chains in the future.
