Web3 gaming accelerator Dream Catalyst has announced Dark Table CCG as their first blockchain game to join the Somnia Network.
This marks the first game to be accepted by the gaming-focused $10 million accelerator, which was set up by Somnia and Uprising Labs to help developers create high-quality blockchain gaming experiences that any gamer can enjoy, regardless of whether they know anything about web3 or not. The program provides game development companies with support in a number of different ways, including funding, mentorship, tools, and even industry connections in on-chain gaming but also even traditional web2 gaming as well.
According to an announcement in the game’s official Discord server, next to all the significant support the program brings to accepted applicants, joining the Dream Catalyst Accelerator Program will also allow the game’s team to bring thousands of items on-chain, enabling true player ownership and thus the ability for gamers buy, sell, and trade their digital cards and assets. In the weeks ahead, players can look forward to seeing “massive upgrades” introduced to the game while the devs continue to deliver major features and further polish the blockchain title for a better web3 gaming experience, according to the Discord announcement.
As a result of this significant support and in order to properly deliver big updates to the game, the team has decided to pull the game off from Steam and the Epic Games Store at the start of April. This was followed by the developers opening submissions for collab requests alongside hosting a community AMA. It’s also been teased that the community can look forward to playtests coming soon for “Under the Table Pass” holders. This Pass does not actually exist yet, but collabs and raffles will provide opportunities for anyone to earn whitelist spots. It looks like a future open beta leaderboard will also reward players with whitelist spots.
The total supply of Under the Table Passes is 1007. The Passes themselves seem to act as whitelists for the upcoming Origin Key Collection, as well as for closed beta access. Origin Keys are set to be limited edition items that give holders exclusive perks and items, including exclusive holder-only tournaments, rarer in-game item drops, a unique avatar, and more.
You will be able to earn Under the Table Passes from collabs, raffles, giveaways, AMA participation, and from leaderboards in the open beta version of the free to play card game. The leaderboards are set to be in-game ladders that rank players based on metrics such as wins, number of games played, number of cards played, amount of damage dealt, and possibly more. Rank among the best players on these leaderboards every week to win whitelist spots.
Based on the FAQ section of the game’s official Discord server, anyone will be able to jump into the open beta version by downloading the game for free on Steam or the Epic Games Store. No release date for the open beta is available at the time of writing.
Dark Table CCG is a free to play 4-player collectible card game powered by Somnia, an EVM Layer 1 blockchain network. Up to 4 players referred to as Keymasters gather around the Dark Table in a Lovercraftian theme to experience reimagined card gaming in which 4 players strategically battle it out with their customizable decks in free for all matches. Choose from various different Leaders that each have their own game-ending Enrage Abilities and build a deck of cards that are made to bring these abilities come to life. The more powerful a Leader’s abilities are, the less starting health it actually has to balance risk and reward. In each match, players attempt to Enrage their Leader as fast as possible to unlock end-game abilities and seal victory.
This game initially launched as a traditional web2 title on Steam and the Epic Games Store in November 2023 as an early access alpha game. It seems like that launch didn’t really work out unfortunately. Now that the team has switched to web3 and is receiving support from the Dream Catalyst Accelerator Program, perhaps this second chance could be just what the game and the studio needs to properly thrive.
