Crypto Art X Gaming at Play to Earn Game Festival

Play to Earn is happy to present an artwork by Ben Haley that combines gaming with crypto art and physical materials. The Play to Earn Game Festival is of course a celebration of blockchain gaming and all its benefits, but it's also a perfect moment to build bridges. Crypto art has had its big breakthrough this year, and that would've been the story of the year if it wasn't for DeFi. Yet still, crypto art is booming.

The connection between virtual worlds and crypto art is very strong. Many artists use Cryptovoxels, Decentraland and Somnium Space to showcase their art. In addition collectors show off their collection. In which ever virtual world something is created, creators want to make something that looks nice.

I knew I had to work together with a rising star from within the crypto art community to give the gaming event something extra. Ben Haley is such an upcoming artist. He's an U.K.-based artist who combines polymer clay and paint with digital pixels to create animated art. The result is something you've probably not seen before. His first series sold out on Rarible and now we teamed up to create something awesome.

We've - mainly Ben of course - created an artwork called "Play to Earn Takes Over". It's available on Opensea with a minimum reserve bid of 1 ETH. In addition we're selling separate pieces from the artwork as 10/10 collectibles for 0.05 ETH each. You can also find some of those collectibles on Rarible. You can also visit the Play to Earn Game Festival and take a look at the artwork from within a virtual world!

Play to Earn Takes Over by Ben Haley

"Play to Earn Takes Over" is an artwork that takes inspiration from Super Mario Bros 3, but... compared with the early 90s gaming has changed. Now play-to-earn as a business model is taking over, giving more power and ownership to gamers thanks to blockchain technology.

Portrayed are all the games that participated in the Play to Earn Game Festival. Each of them has a place in the artwork, because they all allow gamers to create value through participation. This value can be kept for further fun and games, or sold to the highest bidder. That type of ownership has slowly been taken away from gamers as digital downloads paved the way for complicated EULA and ToS documents. Nowadays gamers only license a game, and they are just cash cows.

Super Mario Bros 3 was a game you could actually own. Having a boxed version in mint condition in your closet can now earn you hundreds of dollars. However, a digital download of any modern game has no actual value. These games, portrayed in this artwork, are at the forefront of a new age of gaming. Player empowerment, digital ownership and player-driven economies will flourish in the coming years. We are setting the stage of things to come!

"Play to Earn Takes Over" is available on Opensea.
