On December 5th, The Sandbox officially announced the start of the Festive Theme VoxEdit Contest, giving the community the opportunity to create and earn $SAND across multiple categories.

How Does The Sandbox Festive Theme VoxEdit Contest Work?

For this seasonal contest, the goal is to create a winter-themed or Christmas-based asset using VoxEdit, the 3D modelling tool and voxel editor through which users can create NFTs for this gaming metaverse. Whether you’ll create an igloo, snowmen, presents, wreaths, or “Jolly St Nick on the Australian beach in swimshorts and a board,” is completely up to you, so long as it fits the theme of the event.

Submissions for this contest opened on December 5th and will close on January 2nd at 11:59 PM UTC, with the results set to be announced on January 18th.

What Categories Are There in the Festive Theme VoxEdit Contest?

The contest provides the chance for everyone to earn $SAND tokens thanks to including multiple categories that give creatives of all skill levels the chance the properly participate. There are a couple of different categories you can submit your work: the Regular Category, Beginner Category, and 9 Special Prize Categories.

For the Regular Category, there is a total of 15,000 $SAND up for grabs for the top 10 entries, with participants who rank from 4th to 10th receiving 500 $SAND each:

  • 1st place: 6,000 $SAND + Gold Catalyst Pack
  • 2nd place: 3,500 $SAND + Silver Catalyst Pack
  • 3rd place: 2000 $SAND + Bronze Catalyst Pack
  • 4th to 10th place : Each receives 500 $SAND.

Here is what’s included in each Catalyst Pack:

  • Gold: 15 Rare, 100 Uncommon, 100 Common
  • Silver: 5 Rare, 50 Uncommon, 80 Common
  • Bronze: 50 Uncommon, 50 Common

If you’re new to this kind of creative contest but would like to try your hand at building your very own voxel asset, then you’ll want to jump into the Beginner Category, where the top 10 submissions share a total reward pool of 5000 $SAND:

  • 1st place: 1,500 $SAND + Silver Catalyst Pack
  • 2nd place: 1,000 $SAND + Bronze Catalyst Pack
  • 3rd place: 750 $SAND + Bronze Catalyst Pack
  • 4th to 10th place: each receives 250 $SAND.

Next to these categories, you may also have a chance at winning one or multiple Special Prize Categories. There are a total of 9 different Special Prize Categories, most of which give contestants an extra challenge to try and think of while creating their submissions. Each special category rewards winners with 300 $SAND “unless stated otherwise.”

These are the Special Prize Categories:

  • Newbie: A new participant to VoxEdit Contests has the opportunity to win this category.
  • The Grinch: If you manage to create the best non-Christmas entry, then you will deservedly claim hold of this category.
  • CF Prom Night: CF artists who didn’t win in another category could have a chance of winning this prize.
  • No Retreat, No Surrender: If you’re among the frequent participants who have “always or almost always” taken part in these voxel contests without winning yet, then this prize could be awarded to you.
  • Frozen: If you excel at modelling but struggle with animating, then you could win this category for the best non-animated asset.
  • A Toy Story: Best Toy Character
  • Outside the Gift Box: The most creative take on this seasonal festive theme.
  • Decembers Fool: Create the funniest submission to win this one!
  • 1 Mystery Category: The best entry for this unknown challenge will be rewarded with 100 $SAND.

Participation in these Special Prize Categories could be rewarded with 25 $SAND by being among the “first 100 [entrants] outside of the top 10 in the winning categories.”
