Developer Directive Games has announced that Civitas is migrating to Immutable zkEVM, marking the start of a new chapter for the 4X strategy MMO that brings with it an upgrade to infrastructure, improving scalability to help the team deliver a better and more accessible web3 gaming experience. Here is how this well-known gaming chain helps the blobkchain gaming studio improve their community-driven title.
Civitas is moving from Ethereum to Immutable zkEVM thanks to the numerous benefits the L2 provides to both game developers and players.
Specifically, by moving the game to this gaming-focused EVM ZK-rollup, the following benefits are unlocked: more speed, higher security, EVM compatibility, lower gas fees, seamless upgrades, Passport Integration, staking, crafting, and significantly upgraded scalability. The game also gets native integration with the chain’s full-stack web3 gaming platform, meaning that developers have fewer backend headaches to deal with while being able to more quickly ship new Chosen collections and assets.
All this also simply gives the team more time to work on the game itself as well, making the migration a win-win for everyone. It’s especially going to be a much better experience for players though thanks to Immutable Passport integration, as that enables players to enjoy gas-free gameplay and trading, making it easier for any gamer to jump in and begin their play to earn journey in this city-building MMO without needing to deal with any annoying gas fees.
“As a city-building strategy game blending 4X mechanics with blockchain-driven economies, our mission has always been to build a player-owned world that grows with its community. This partnership with Immutable gives us the foundation to do that faster, more securely, and at a whole new scale.”
If you want to join in on this migration, you should head on over to the game’s official website to create your Directive Games account while connecting your EVM wallet and Immutable Passport. By doing so, you unlock interoperable asset support, and perhaps some rewards too in the form of early content drops and eligibility for exclusive airdrops.
If you’re a holder of an NFT from the Chosen of Civitas collection, the team has stated that they are making this transition as seamless as possible for you. This means that the original collection will continue to stay on Ethereum L1, but you will still get to enjoy all the benefits of the integration with IMX, meaning the collection is not only fully integrated with the Layer 2 network, but it will also be fully interoperable with future L2 assets to ensure “continuity and flexibility.” So, holders, it seems you don’t need to bridge your assets to continue being a part of the game’s new phase.
The Chosen of Civitas NFT collection can be found on OpenSea for the floor price of 0.1094 ETH at the time of writing. This is a collection of in-game avatars that each come with a unique appearance and distinct in-game abilities while being able to generate an Ever Fragment NFT every month, with the generated asset used to create Ever Crystals that enable players to set up productive land tiles in the 4X MMO.
According to the partnership announcement post, the web3 developer has a number of migration plans they’d like to share more details on in the coming weeks. These are said to include details on Immutable Passport integration, smart contract integration, upcoming content drops, and more plans you can look forward to seeing info on in the game’s Discord server and social media channels. The team will be hosting a Discord AMA on June 26 at 10:30 AM UTC to give the community a deep dive into the partnership and the plans they have for the future of the game's gameplay mechanics.
In the meantime, if you like MMOs and 4X strategy games, then make sure to sign up to get ready to play Civitas on Immutable zkEVM in the future.
The announcement of the game’s migration comes just a day after Directive Games broke silence on The Machines Arena Open Beta Season 3 with a new preview trailer. The Machines Arena however runs on Ronin and is already playable for free on Android and PC as a top down hero shooter.
