After announcing the 64-player Combat Tournament earlier this month, the Champions Ascension developer Plai Labs yesterday gave a surprise first look at the game’s 3v3 combat mode.
As a result, there won’t be any 1v1 gameplay for some time when this team-based mode is open in order to ensure that everyone gets an opponent.
Next to this surprise reveal, the developers also shared some other important details in the game’s official Discord serve, such as the fact that the fences on the map are now destructible. There is also a Spike Trap at the center of the map that activates and deactivates every 30 seconds, causing a lot of damage in the process. Two types of Power-Ups can be found throughout the map: Crocaine, which increases damage by 100% for 20 seconds and is located at the center of the map, and Life Crystal, which heals the Champion for 50% of their Maximum Health and is hidden behind pillars or located outside the fence. The Life Crystals get turned into Crocaine after 5 minutes.
Additionally, they also stated players can Lock in and Lock out of targets by pressing R3 on the controller, and they can instantly switch targets while Locked on by pushing R3 to the right or left on the controller or pressing TAB on the Keyboard. This was quickly changed however for the afternoon session, making it so players use the D-pad instead for switching targets, while R3 would still be used to lock on opponents.
Last month, the pre-alpha version of the game became free to play and removed the need to have a wallet.
