Chainmonsters, a free-to-play monster-taming MMORPG, is now officially available on the Epic Games Store as an Early Access title.
Made by B-Side Games, this represents the company’s debut title, and is also one of the first blockchain games to be released on Steam’s competitor. It became available for download on the store as a free-to-play title on March 8th, exposing the NFT game to a wider audience. You can find the link to the game’s official store page in the announcement page that is linked in the tweet down below.
While the game does include NFTs on Immutable X, an Ethereum-based Layer 2 network, that doesn’t mean you need to use the non-fungible tokens to jump into this Pokemon-inspired RPG. In fact, you don’t need to interact with anything related to blockchain at all – the game can be enjoyed in traditional fashion just like many other non-crypto games. According to the FAQ page, there are no cryptocurrencies included, nor the developers plan on including them, while the blockchain technology used to “give players proof of verifiable ownership and transaction history” is completely optional. Those who do want to interact with the crypto aspects of the third-person title are however free to do so, and by doing so will be able to trade various cosmetics and caught Chainmons as NFTs on the Immutable X marketplace, to which the developers migrated to after partnering with IMX last month.
According to the official system requirements, this PC version is available on Windows 10 and 11, but those who’d like to play Chainmonsters on Android and iOS devices can do so by downloading through the game’s official website.
