After participating in Steam Next Fest last month, web3 game Castle of Blackwater has officially publicly launched on Steam, bringing the 2D title to PC’s biggest marketplace ahead of various launch weekend events and activities for April and the months ahead.

What Is Castle of Blackwater?

Castle of Blackwater is a 2D social deduction game set in a magical fantasy world in which up to 10 players are trapped in a deceptive castle as one of 3 different factions. Each faction has different objectives to complete, and those who manage to outwit everyone to survive claim win the game. Basically, if you like games like Among Us and Town of Salem, you’ll probably enjoy this one too, though it does come with its own interesting changes.

According to the official store page, the game contains 30+ skill-based mini-games, private and public game lobbies, built-in proximity voice & text chat, cosmetics, and more. There are 10 different playable characters, each with their own unique active and passive abilities, with more characters planned to be added over time. When it comes to factions, one of them is focused on completing tasks and solving murders, while the second is a satanic faction trying to wreak havoc, and the third faction has you play as a werewolf trying to hunt everyone down.

Unlike most web3 gaming projects that launch web2 versions on Valve’s storefront as free to play titles, this game is priced at $6.99. However, there is currently a -15% launch discount available for the first 14 days from launch, so you have time until April 8th to get it for $5.94. It looks like everyone who buys the game or redeems a Steam key and completes all tutorial chapters is awarded a limited-time Starter Bundle, which contains a set of cosmetics, emotes, and more goodies to enjoy using while trying to successfully claim victory for your faction. The game is available on both Windows and Mac.

On launch day, the team held a special game night in their official Discord server among other community initiatives, and this upcoming weekend looks set to have even more events to look forward to. Let’s take a look!
