Calamity has confirmed that its next major playtest, called the Icebound Season, will kick off this Friday, 19 December 2025 at 1:00 PM UTC and will run until Tuesday, 23 December 2025 at 3:00 PM UTC. This limited-time playtest comes with major gameplay features including a new 3v3 PvP Arena and the game's early Mobile version.

A New Chapter in Calamity's Seasonal Cycle

The Icebound Season playtest is part of a larger winter-themed content series planned for the winter 2025–2026 window. During this season, everyone will gain temporary access to exclusive in-game items, zones, and systems that won't return once the event ends. Among these are unique titles and lootboxes themed around the season's icy aesthetic.

Cosmetic Lootboxes tied to the Icebound Season will be up for purchase using in-game currency and can be minted into NFTs once the event ends. These cosmetic items will include limited-time visuals that reflect the wintry design of the content update.

Technical Alpha With a Mobile Debut and PvP Focus

The December 2025 playtest comes with a clear disclaimer from the Calamity team. It's a technical alpha build packed with features that could not be fully tested internally. Players are advised that issues such as bugs, server rollbacks, or unplanned maintenance could occur.

The team also stresses that any OTC trades, especially those involving in-game gold for real money, are risky and unsupported in the event of a rollback.

Despite the alpha status, this round of testing comes with 2 key gameplay systems for the first time: the mobile client and the 3v3 PvP Arena. The mobile version of Calamity is now available in early form for both Android and iOS, making this the first time players can access the game outside of PC.

The 3v3 PvP Arena brings team-based competitive combat into the mix, complete with matchmaking and a leaderboard. The system is still in heavy development and may be adjusted, disabled, or enhanced with further updates based on player feedback.

Expanded Game Systems and Overhauls

Calamity's core systems are also receiving major changes with this playtest. PvE dungeons have been overhauled with a new difficulty progression system. This removes the need to replay stages and allows for faster balance tweaks through a reworked backend.

New city zones have been introduced, including the Factory Zone and Dragon Hall. Access to these zones in the future will be limited to players who hold specific assets like Factory or Dragon Ring NFTs. Factory holders can also claim daily lootboxes featuring cosmetics and PvP-ready consumables.

One of the notable changes is the update to the Valor leaderboard system. Instead of focusing on burst farming strategies late in the season, players now accrue Valor Points through Wyrm Tribute logic, which is given away based on a daily share model. This makes the system more balanced and sustainable.

Calamity is also adding a new PvE leaderboard called Conquest. This leaderboard tracks player progress based on who reaches the highest PvE stage first, rather than relying on point multipliers. A cap has also been added to limit how much players can earn per dungeon run, setting a 10-minute accumulation window for Wyrm Shards and Valor Medals.

More Ways to Progress and Customize

The Icebound playtest comes with a new Cosmetics Collection bonus, which boosts player stats based on the number of unique, non-duplicate cosmetic items held. These include both in-game and NFT cosmetics.

There are also new titles that can be earned through playtest participation or gameplay achievements. These appear above a player's character and are designed to highlight specific milestones or seasonal involvement.

Itemization has been changed as well, with item stats now rolling within visible brackets. For example, an item might show +35 Strength on a 30–40 scale, letting players see the possible range for stat rolls.

Skill balance changes are also included, although not listed in full due to the scope of adjustments.

Fishing has not been left out either. A new bait tier has been added, allowing players to collect and craft the Golden Rod, a unique cosmetic NFT tied to fishing.

Leaderboards, Loot, and Play Windows

Rewards during the Icebound Season playtest are split into 2 main pools. First is the Wyrm Tribute prize pool, which gives out USDC rewards based on the Gold in your inventory at the end of the event. This pool starts at 1,000,000 Gold (equal to $2,000 USD) and grows as players purchase Season Pass and other items with Gold during the playtest. Gold can be bought using USDC via Ronin, or through Coinbase Commerce using crypto on Base, Polygon, and Ethereum. Final Gold-to-USDC conversion happens at a rate of 1 USDC per 500 Gold, with a minimum of 250 Gold required.

The second pool is tied to competitive rankings, offering 3,000,000 $WYRM in leaderboard rewards. These prizes are distributed across 5 categories, with a combined estimated value of around $25,000. The breakdown includes:

  • Valor PvE: 1,000,000 $WYRM for the Top 150 players
  • Conquest PvE: 275,000 $WYRM for the Top 40 players
  • Guild Rankings: 1,225,000 $WYRM for the Top 5 guilds
  • Referrals (Fame): 250,000 $WYRM for the Top 25 referrers
  • Scholarships (Sponsors): 250,000 $WYRM for the Top 25 sponsors

The final snapshot for Gold balances will be taken on 23 December 2025 at 1:00 PM UTC, two hours before the server shuts down.

Seasonal NFT Cosmetics and Leaderboard Trophies

Special cosmetic NFTs will be available to players placing in the top brackets of the Conquest and Fishing leaderboards. The top 50 players in Conquest and the top 5 catches in Fishing will qualify for themed NFT rewards.

Any cosmetic items earned during the playtest can be minted from the connected wallet once the event ends. Minting is required to keep these items after the playtest ends.

Content Contest Encourages Community Clips

A community content contest will also run along with the event. Players are invited to post clips, highlights, memes, or match recaps showcasing either Mobile gameplay or 3v3 PvP. Content can be submitted via X, YouTube, or Twitch, and shared in the creative channel on Calamity's Discord.

Submissions are due by 27 December at 1:00 PM UTC, with winners announced on 30 December.

The top 3 nominations will receive 5 Factory NFTs each across categories like Best Mobile Overview, Best 3v3 PvP Content, and Best Meme. Another 15 winners will get 3 Factory NFTs each, chosen based on engagement and how well the new features are presented.
